I luv this movie but I wonder whether Delightful was mentally retarded or a deaf mute? She doesn't have any lines and all the characters talk to her like if she was a child and she is a grown woman isn't she? And I also thought she could be a deaf mute too so that can be the problem. Does anybody know?
shareI know in the play she could talk because at the funeral, Raynelle told her to say something to her father at the funeral and she said 'bye'. Maybe she's just shy.
shareI think actors get paid by the line, and she clearly did not have a speaking role so I have to wonder if she was volunteering for this movie.
I believe like the previous poster that her character was just shy though.
OP ~ Khazmir gave u answer within. She is actually a comedian (perhaps worked the circuit w/ Whoopi) but was not given any lines due to fact they would have had 2 pay her in that retrospect. Ironically she's perhaps the 2nd actress I've seen in a movie w/out lines and I think they are the best actors.
Because they can work a scene/part just from facial movements or how they present themselves. With this character ... you could see in various scenes her reactions ~
1. When the brothers r fighting and the mother gets upset. Delightful motions her head back n forth as if shes wondering what is going on.
2. When she's flirting at the funeral ... all she has to do is give off a smile and a gesture of a giggle.

I was wondering why she didn't have any speaking parts as well, she facial expressions was funny and the way she kept eating.
