Chocolate is poisonous for dogs

I cringed when they put down the dish of chocolates to try to get Richie to come out  because chocolate is poisonous for dogs and in large enough quantities, will actually kill them. Their doing this also implies that they were in the habit of feeding him chocolate.

So, a note to the wise-if you lose your dog under the floor, try a piece of meat for bait instead, maybe in a livetrap. And never give chocolate to your canine best friend.

Clearly foreshadowing to death...

You can get special chocolates for dogs, and as the ones Daniel put down for Richie had been transferred into a glass jar, so we couldn't see the box they came from, I can only assume that this is what they were. Otherwise I'm sure Valeria would have been on his case.

If it's a boy, do you think it will look like Rodney? It doesn't matter as long as it's healthy!

FWIW, my dog always adored chocolates -- stole my Valentine Candy, ate my husband's chocolate birthday cake, etc. He often afterl paid the piper in the form of some tummy trouble, but he loved the stuff. I could see using it for him if I had to bait him.

Pretty sure that chocolate idea was to show how shallow and ignorant those two were, even about the dog she loved. Also, I had two dogs who loved chocolate, a Samoyed and a great Pyrenees and paid for that pleasure with bad diarrhea. My Sam ate an entire Hershey king size one pound Krackle bar paper tinfoil and all.
