Problem was (IMO), this movie was too silly/childish for adults and too bloody for children. But yeah, the whole premise defenitely reminded me of these books.
Does anybody else know them?
Yeah I know them, used to love them as a kid. I sort of agree but I liked the movie for the reasons you said, it was incredibly cheesy and goofy but the ghosts were really well done and it's entertaining, surprised it has such a low rating I'd have though it would have at least a 6.
