Wanted to Like It, but

Just couldn't quite enjoy it. The story had some good potential, but it just didn't all quite click for some reason.

I'm watching it right now, I missed the first 30 minutes though. Sorry to say this but i'm so bored. This is a sleeper.

How can you possibly even begin to have a valid comment on a movie that you missed the first 30 mins of ?

It amazes me that you would even come to this forum, and leave a comment on something you havent even seen.

You must be quite desperate for attention I suppose.

anyway......................

For me, this movie was interesting, and watchable but didnt really go as far as I expected it to. The end scene was very nice, in that the long distance shot left it up to you to decide the implications of his line of sight.

Not a bad movie, but not all that great either. Kathleen did well with her role, and I look forward to seeing her develop more as an actress in the future.

I missed the first minutes also. I thought it was rather boring but finding nothing else to watch I stayed with it.

One thing really irritated me is that I have seen so many films lately with wimpy male main characters meekly submitting to cold, hard faced mean spirited sexless bitches bitterly chastising them that I am sick of it. I just wanted to yell for cole to tell her to go to hell. Cole didnt have the guts to hold onto the girl he really wanted and was good with.

Monogamy is a crock anyway.

I'm inclined to agree. I'm watching it now.. and I'm extremely curious as to when it will be over! Ugh! I'm quite disappointed in Mark Ruffalo for acting in such a horrid movie!

reply

I enjoyed this film, itwas a decent enough script but like someone mentioned, the ending just didn't feel right. I wanted Coles to get with Sam, eh, maybe i'm just a sucker for a happy ending.

Coles & Sam couldn't get together at the end. When they had sex in the apartment, Coles no longer had the longing, wanting feeling- that he thinks is love- towards Sam. And Sam saw it. That's why she knew she needed to grow up and she did. Coles didn't and probably never will..... as he wished....Especially if Claire takes him back (which the ending depicted she would).

I watched this movie for the first time last night and I enjoyed it. It really gives you insight to relationships. I love Mark Ruffalo in the roles as Coles. I was excited to see Kathleen as Thea because I was watching her when she was on Beverly Hills 90210.

I think that maya stange is beautiful. It was allright.

reply

Miss Stange does seem relatively pretty. Otherwise, it was a little bit slow moving with a pretty mediocre (at best) script. Mark Ruffalo is pretty unconvincing, as usual...

I thought they felt something towards each other, but it probably never really came out to the surface except in their threesome with ruffalo. Whatever it was, Thea left it back in "fantasyland" and moved on, just as Sam and ruffalo ended up doing. It seemed strange to me, by the way, that she was the first to "grow up" among them.

i love when that dude came to Cole 'n asked for his money back.
it's kinda funny.

i also love the scence when Cole 'n his gf were brushing teeth'n they were talking their diner party with Cole's friends.it was so natural.
i like when Mark said he wanted to look up that word in the dictionary.hes so cute.

by the way, what was that word really mean?

Couldn't enjoy it as well.

I've seen the previews about a year and a half ago, and always wanted to check it out. Finally got around to it tonight. And boy - what a disappointment.

It wasn't so much that is was "achingly slow", not at all. and I'm a big fan of Ruffalo (though most of his films are a big miss, i.e. that one with Meg Ryan, and Life Without Me).. It's just that it wasn't really interesting.
Claire was a pushover and a wimp, Sam didn't stand up for her own, Colles was an undecisive twit. and the ending when Sam comes to the beach house.. What the hell! I was expecting some drama!! Why did she get married?? and what's with the fake smiles????? Ahhh!!! Such a miss!

Anyway, yeah. Not a winner. Though the OST, wow. Good stuff on it.

reply

Oh and Turner's (Thea) acting is absolutely atrocious. Man, that "anarchy" 'tattoo' she had on her arm in the begining, and the Generation-X pouting that was going on. Wow....

Yeah, put me in the bored camp.

And is it me, or did Mark Ruffalo's butt get nearly as much screen time as his face?

I just finished watching this movie and I am frustrated... I do not like how the movie just ended.. there should have been something more. I liked Claire but Sam and Coles should be together... although Sam was a little annoying. I agree that I am a little disappointed in Ruffalo acting in this movie. The beginning was a little rocky for me, and I almost turned it off. I feel soo bad for Sid too, poor guy. I do not think this is something I would watch again.

I saw the movie last night and I was very disappointed with the way the movie ended also however, not for the same reason. Part of the reason I dont regularly watch these movies is because of the phony emotional dialog going on. It seemed to start off with something nice in the begining with these two messed up people in college who get together for a relationship. The problem lies with the Claire character who is basically being used as a prop for Coles and Sam not being together. It would have been much more interesting if Coles was not with anyone and then he meets with Sam again. I really didnt care if they got together or not. It seemed that Sam(marrying two weeks after she screwed Coles) Claire(knowing the fact that Coles did this and settling for Coles anyway) and Coles( who does not want to grow up) all have issues. I just did not understand why the director did not explore these issues futher.

Mark was great in that two-hander he did with Laura Linney and he was terrific in the five minutes he was in the Tom Cruise-as-a-murderer flick, but more often than not, he's not been all that good. Part of the problem is his wimpy mumbling. Mark, buddy, you gotta talk or you'll always end up getting the second best women!

The Sam/Coles chemistry was okay. I was willing to believe it when they were young. It seemed much ado about nothing once they met nine years later. Did not buy Coles/Claire at all. After the dock scene, he should have swam for it!

Thea and the husband thing wasn't too convincing either. I mean, I have known wild women who have setlled down, but this duo didn't seem to make any sense. If they'd have had kids, I could have said "Well, she got pregnant" but I couldn't see any other basis for their relationship. That said, Thea can come over and wash my car any day of the week.

I cannot seem to understand why the vaunted "Writers of Hollywood" can't seem to make men with stronger personalities. Is it that hard to creat a male character who is willing to go the extra mile to get what he wants? Was the last guy who stuck his neck out and pursued the one chick who got away Dustin Hoffman in "The Graduate"? It seemes so.

Krj47, I guess they were going after realism. You might be looking for another genre. Superman goes the extra mile (literally flies it) and he wears a cape to boot. Try that next time.

I found it to be somewhat boring.
