This movie still sucks-fourteen years later!

This weekend I attended a lecture on the Codetalkers by one who should know-Dr. Laura Tohe, a daughter of one of the Codetalkers and the author of a book on them:

Naturally, she mentioned WT and that the original CTs had been hired as consultants but when the CTs saw the finished version, they remarked that nothing that they had contributed had actually been used. Being a movie buff and military history nut, I smirked at that one because I knew the outcome well in advance.

During the Q&A, I stood up and thanked Dr. Tohe for her presentation and then added that "The movie Wind Talkers was not about the Navajo Code Talkers; it was about Nicholas Cage".

That got a few snorts and chuckles from the audience.

Thank you, Navajo, Choctaw, Hopi and other tribes for your unique contribution to the war effort.

Still sucks, huh? It kind of stands to reason. Usually bad films don't get better over time. Some do, because of the comedic factor, once you accept that you can't take it seriously. Others do because you learn to appreciate them when you watch them with new eyes. Truthfully I haven't even seen this. I came to read the comments because I always wanted to see it but it looks like this one wasn't too good. The premise seemed great though. Too bad.

I would still rent it on Netflix just to say that you've seen it. Just make sure to have a barf-bag at your side!
