Will we meet again?

I've only seen the dubbed version, but in it Haku promises that he will meet Chihiro again. Is this mentioned or expanded on in the original version?

reply

He says the same thing in Japanese; who knows what it means? He is bound by his promise to take care of Chihiro, so maybe that means he will be 'haunting' her back in the Real world. Maybe the Oginos will visit the Kohaku apartments some time in the future. It is an honest and heartfelt well-wishing to Chihiro, so perhaps that's all that should be read into it.

Yeah, I guess if I were him that's how I'd handle it. Is he going to break a little girl's heart and tell her the truth?

I do like your haunting idea. That would make for an original sequel or at least a nice little nod to this movie in some unrelated movie.

He says so but we will never know because the movie ends before they see each other again.

He said he will quit his apprenticeship with Yubaba.
Once he's done that, he can move between worlds.
In her world he is a river that flows underground, but I bet he can still have some kind of actual presence in her life, as a gurdian spirit, or in her dreams.
It won't be a physical love in that life/incarnation, but a spiritual one. And perhaps in the next life they could reincarnate in the same dimention :)
