Andie's a bad actor

Does anyone agree that andie MacDowell got acted off the screen by Anna Chancellor and Imelda Staunton who gave class performances. It's typical that the american gets the lead part, and she's just not that good.

.she was fine... her character was supposed to be mousy and low-key...

reply

ummmmm, yeah. sometimes. or maybe it's just Americans.

I agree, she gives a poor performance. But she did okay in Groundhog Day, which is the only other movie I know her from.

reply

she was pretty in green card..

and beautiful in St. Elmo's Fire as the girl of Emilio Estevez's dreams.

reply

yes, I also like Groundhog Day very much. She looked so intellectual in it.

reply

anyone who is in a movie with Staunton gets acted off the screen because she is simply amazing. But other than that i thought Andie was fine

Andie can only seem to be 'Andie' in every film I've seen her in.Has she ever played a bitch or a serial killer? If she has, then I would watch it out of sheer curiosity and would probably be disappointed. You can always rely on actresses like Chancellor and Staunton to put on good performances, even if the film has a somewhat unbelievable plot( Crush has, in my opinion)Andie to save a film through a brilliant and emotional take?....Nah.

But she was great in Sex, Lies, and Videotape.

reply

Shes very wooden. Iv never liked her in a film although
in Groundhog Day shes as good as she's ever likely to be .

reply

Women don't like her because they hate the idea of having to compete with her, however unlikely that eventuality would ever be.

reply

She is a beautiful mature woman and I'm sure she is sweet in real life. It's just her acting leaves a lot to be desired.Cate Blanchett she ain't.

Andie is beautiful, but comes from the modeling world.

She was so bad in "Tarzan" [her first feature film] her voice was completely overdubbed by Glenn Close.

It wasn't her voice was so bad in "Tarzan", it was just her thick Southern twang was so heavy that she was re-dubbed with the more aristocratic tones of Glenn Close. Her acting was still good, otherwise, they would have cast a completely different actress for the role.

Andie is a sweetheart and beyond beautiful. Is this nationalism? I'm seeing a lot of bashing of Americans. The lady has done a fine job in everything I've seen with her. So what if she's not Meryl Streep? She's certainly good enough. What's important is to have a good time. Enjoy the film and the characters. Not every performance has to be critiqued, and for goodness sake, at least have some courtesy.

Andie is a fine actor. I think there're a lot of conformists here. People who would like to go with what others think, thinking that's cooler than saying otherwise. I think it started with her Brit Accent in Four Weddings & a Funeral. Its become like a 'popular' view to make fun of her acting since then.

She's no Meryl Streep - agreed. But she's pretty solid. Those who compare, was Meryl Streep a fashion model who remained L'Oreal's and Gap\s' face for donkey's years? Everyone has their thing. Andie is a famous model turned actress. With such a career, she's really brilliant!

She did a good job (or at least did not look bad in front of co-actors) in Crush much like in many of her other good films like Groundhog Day, Sex, Lies &Videotape (for which she won an Independent Spirit Award for best female lead) and Short Cuts.

I just cannot stand those people who judge without even putting any effort and link those lame 'judgements' to National origin! Do these guys even know some of the most brilliant American actresses? I cannot believe people still do such cliched comparisons - do a little growing up before you come out here and comment!

She didn't have a "Brit" accent in Four Weddings and a Funeral, she was playing an American.
