Disappointing at best.

This might have made for a good student short. I found it dull and contrived, with much meandering leading nowhere seemingly to fill time. Remove a lot of fat, and you might have a nice little intrigueing film.

Probably one of the worst dutch films i have seen in this century. Cinematography alone don't make a movie. I somehow even five years later have to think about it when people ask me which movie i didn't like.

reply

you all you hot shot critics ought to try making your own film instead
of sitting in front of the computer and turning into a vegetable.
"Remove the fat?" from where your brain?
You know since you don't know what you are talking about it is probably a
good idea if you didn't post at all.

If only those who have ever made a movie are allowed to write critics and express their opinions then not only forums like this wouldn't need to exist (professionals who really have made a movie have other places to discuss) but most papers and magazines would have to quit their work because I don't know that their official critics ever made a movie (or written a novel, composed a song, draw a picture, coreographed a dance...).

People are (or is it my imagination that they should be?) allowed to express their unsatisfaction. If only praises are allowed, then this is not a movie forum but a fan site.

And, for your information, I didn't dislike the movie. Just your attitude.

I would say the whole idea behind this movie is that you don't know where it is gonna lead. I watched this movie without any knowledge in front whatsoever, so i was positively surprised.

reply

This is true, you don't know where the movie leads, and this is a thumb up for the movie (compared to similar, especially American ones). Unfortunatelly, in most of scenes that unexpectedly appear the factor of surprise is made by illogical development of the story. The plausibility doesn't live in Moonlight. It is not a bad movie (everyone else working in the movie did his/her best to minimize the damage of the screenplay holes and they did a great job so the movie is at least one level above "watchable") but its plot looks as if it was made by someone even younger and less experienced than its main characters.

I thought Moonlight was a great movie. I bought it, not knowing what it was about, and I don't regret buying it one bit. What I loved the most about the movie is how every situation was realistic. The camera angles made it comfortable to watch the movie and the musical score fit the scenes perfectly. Moonlight is one of my favorite movies.
