Mischa B's Character in this film

felt completeley unnescessary imho.
The film should have been from the perspective of either Tori or Paulie (or both) completeley. How they meet, how their relationship evolved etc etc. This would make all of the scenes depicting Paulies obsession and broken-heartedness all the more effective.
The Mary character and her voice-overs did nothing for me in terms of character development and story progression. Mary seemed so underdeveloped and uninteresting. Her voice-overs suggested her to be a main character, a focus I did not feel the character deserved, as the film (IMHO) tells Paulie and Tory's story.
If the Mary character was cut out of the film completeley, I would not see it as having a huge impact on the film as a whole.
I am not suggesting that the role was poorly handled by Barton, I think she did a fine job with what she had to work with, but, it was an unwise move to present the story from her point of-wiev, or at least present her as one of the main characters (Showing her arrival to the school as our introduction to the characters, her voice-overs and her part in the ending etc)

What do you guys think? Agree? Disagree? Do you think the Mary character was important or would a Paulie and Tori centred story from start to finish be better? What is your outlook on the Mary charcter?

Thank you for your time,

Peace!

I actually thought it was quite creative to tell the story from her POV. That usually never happens, and I think it is more objective that Mary told the story.

However, I felt SO BAD FOR HER. How awkward sharing a room with these girls! They're just going at it in the same room as her, constantly which is tacky and rude. Always fighting too. Poor girl.

And they don't even invite her to join them!

But seriously for obvious reasons they couldn't cast age-appropriate actresses in these roles (Pare might have been somewhat age-appropriate, but her breasts definitely weren't). So even though Barton isn't the best actress the world, either now or at 16, she gives this a kind of a naïve teenage perspective that allows it to work more as a serious coming of age movie.
