Did the police chief know? (spoilers)

That Hanussen was really Jewish, I mean? The way he eagerly encourages the guests on the yacht to come and watch the controversy between Hanussen and Breitbart, for instance, and then suggests a public trial. He just seems to eager here. Is it because he knows that Hanussen is not who he pretends to be, and wants it disclosed?
