rumored as plot of new indy movie!

Its been circulating that Indy's next (and probably final) crusade will be centered around Atlantis. I'll tell ya what, if they take the plot and characters of this game it will be one damn good movie.

You make a very strong point. Do you think there's anyway they could make it more reality-grounded, though? I definitely do. I think they could take out a lot of the spiritual stuff and the outlandish obstacles. Kernel is a great villain, and theres plenty of room for a new classic Indy movie in my opinion.

All the Indy films have been based around religious ideas

----------------

Not true, think temple of doom

Some dont believe that the ark of the covenants exist. Some people dont believe that the holy grail exists. What's the difference between these things and Atlantis. I think Atlantis would be the only indy plot for a 4th movie that could possibly work.

reply

What about Temple of Doom?

Kali and Siva are Hindu Goddesses.

reply

Wow, Streetballa, wow.

reply

Truly and genuinly, if they made the movie based on this game it would either suck in an unbeliavable way and ruin the game's essence, or become one hell of a movie you'd want to show your grandkids.

The charachters, the enigmas and puzzles, if they had these in the movie then it'd be great. That's what captivated you in the indy movies, the fact that the movie actually HAD puzzles in it that requiered the character to think and not just shoot -> ref:Tomb Raider.

I've never had the pleasure of playing " Fate of Atlantis " but it sounds great. It might make a great movie. Unfortunately, you can't please everyone.

The Indy trilogy has not yet covered Islam or Buddhism. These religions could provide the subject matter or artifact to send our hero globe-trotting once again, in keeping with quests related to world religions. Although I believe Indy is simply a great adventurer, and isn't or shouldn't be limited to questing after religious artifacts. On the other hand much of the world's great treasures and legendary artifacts are religious in some way. George Lucas will probably want to retain a supernatural element which is a core aspect of the trilogy.

After finding The Dialogues of Plato Indy has to choose one of three ways to go through the rest of the game.

Alone with thinking
Together with Sophia
Alone with action

Which way do you think the film should be based on?

reply

It should be a mix... of course I think they would keep Sophia for the ride because she's "the girl" you know, but the best the could do is mix the three and take the best of each (I love the part in the Greek boat for example...)

Amazing game! If they would do this plot for the movie it could be INCREDIBLE!!!

Cheers!

reply

Ok, I'm there with you. But I think when Indy finds Sophia locked up in Atlantis I would want the audience to have missed her for quite a time as I think the reunion would have much greater impact.

Sadly, the film would lack pretty much of dialogues as Indy has to be on his own quite a lot.

I suppose IATFOA is avalible in comics. Read one episode in a "The Phantom" comics once, but no more than that.
Perhaps it could be based on that story or possibly a mix.

reply

Anybody was so bad to leave Sophia trapped in the jail continuing and finishing the game without her? I've just made this and the finale is...

SPOILER AHEAD

... Sophia, possessed by Nur-Ab-Sal, entering the god chamber when Ubermann is on the platform, pushing him away and becoming the goddess to destroy Atlantis.

WHOAH!! What a finale, and Indy alone in the sub, worried about her.

reply

Yes. It took a while for me to figure out that you had to put her necklace in the gold box. So I know both endings to.

I think that ending is more powerful, but I suppose the majority would like a happier ending for a film.

reply

Yeah. It doesn't have to be the exact script, and some that rigged up Nur-ab-Sal in the beginning level was quite clever. (And ust we remember the shadow-puppets in the Hotel)

reply

As much as I would love that, I really doubt this rumor is true. Besides, wasn't there a rumor that Indy would get a sidekick in the new movie? FoA didn't give Indy a sidekick.

I loved this game as a kid and I hope to god this rumor is true but I seriously doubt it.

want to play Fate of Atlantis on xbox 360 or ps3?

write lucasarts! A lot of companies have been including "classic" versions of games, i.e. Ninendo re-releasing the Zelda games etc. I would LOVE to be able to play this game again, but when i do on my PC the game freaks out. I would love to see this game included as a bonus feature on the New Indiana Jones game that is going to be released in Summer of 2007. If you're with me, then write them a letter!

It isn't true. It's actually an April's Fool joke of several years ago. They even developed a teaser trailer at the time, using shots of The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles.

Although I certainly wouldn't mind a movie based on this game, with a mix of all three paths. But I don't think it'll happen. If anything, there'll be a new game based on the movie.

reply

If they'd make a movie that takes place in the year 1939 they couldn't use Harrison Ford.

The game had so much detail and sub-plots. If they have to put this in a 2 hour film, a lot of good stuff will have to be ignored. Perhaps they could make a TV show based on the game. But who would play Indy?

reply

If you wanna play it on your computer just get the ScummVM application... it lets you play all the old lucasarts games on a new pc with windows xp, and the games are great

reply

I cant tell you how thankful I am for this... I've been looking for DOS emulators for SamnMax, Day of the Tentacle and this. Thanks very much. Such nostalgia

reply

So it's only a rumor eh? Well I'd rather hear it from the horse's mouth before I build hype.

reply

I just wanted do add something to this. Since I discovered ScummVM I had a hell of a great time replaying all those old LucasArts Adventure games, like SamnMax, Fate of Atlantis, Day ot Tentacle, Full Throttle. But I have to say in my opinion the best LucasArts adventure game (and by this, the best game ever) must be The Secret of Monkey Island. Also Grim Fandango must be one of the best games ever. Tim Schafer is a genius.

Actually, they should make a movie out of Monkey Island and Grim Fandango. (Even though Monkey Island would kinda like a Pirates ot Caribbean ripp off).

a lucasarts fan

I wished in the years they had made a movie about the Fate of Atlantis. After all, The Last Crusade game was based on the movie. Why didn't they make the 4th movie based on the video game (Fate of Atlantis was a cool story and game...)?

Nevertheless, I agree with you about Monkey Island. It would be so cool to see a movie about those games, even if yes, it would be kinda like a Pirates of the Caribbean rip off...

They better not have Shia as Indy.

reply

It was a rumor that appeared after Last Crusade, but since they decided to make the saucer man from mars, this was forgotten. I think this would be one of the best stories for an Indy film. I don't think it would be exactly like the game, at least until they reach Knossos. After that it would probably go straight.

For instance, it wouldn't be plausible to see Indy travel across Iceland, Barnett, Azores and Tikal... so they would have to scrap some of those places. I also think the FoA intro would be replaced by, for instance, his past adventures in Jastro Expedition (where he met Sophia), which would scrap a later visit to Iceland (since people already would see it on the intro scene) and also the game introduction with Marcus. (in short, that past and skiping into sophia's lecture right before the "god of deceit").

Mr. Costa probably would replace A. Trottier in many ways: He would have the Plato’s dialogue and he would be the only person to visit (instead of Heidmal and Stuart). After that they would enter to Algeria (they could meet Sallah, there for instance, since Marcus wouldn't appear) and never make a step into Montcarlo. This is just an example how the movie could be different from the game.

However once inside the labyrinth there's no much alternative story and thing would be very similar. Atlantis could be different though... they could arrest both Indy and Sophia and try to kill them by a flood inside the prison, they could escape by getting out from a pool... a crab pool on a room full of crabs, or eels (this would be the "snake, bug" part which they have to pass.

I don’t know... Atlantis is full of good ideas, it would certainly be an excellent movie and it wouldn't need to be exactly like the game.
