I think if anything this has to be one of the least original vampire movies you can come across, pretty much every little detail is taken from one movie or another.
i doubt it's a reference... it's just one of those "dream jobs" that happen to crop up now and then. usually, movies or tv use it to show that the person is a complete slacker.
