Homoerotic Undertone of THE FORSAKEN: My Comments
Okay, concerning homoeroticism in this movie, here's what I have to say...
I thought it was a bit hot that Kerr Smith and Brendan Fehr had such a connection despite knowing each other for about 5 minutes and how they almost gave their lives for each other in order to save each other.
They carried along the stupid annoying blonde girl with the virus, but didn't seem to care much for her, you can see they were more into each other and each other's safety.
It was pretty much the two boys cruising around together in a Mercedes through the lonely, cold, desert with a faint girl in the back, who couldn't see what was really going on in the front.
Brendan Fehr's character seemed to be really concerned for Kerr's safety for knowing him for so little, boys don't usually do that if there's not a genuine interest in the other person.
After they killed Kit, and after the hospital, Brendan's character left but said that he enjoyed spending time with Kerr and he would like to see him again.
Kerr was obviously troubled when he saw Brendan no longer with him, and when he opened the letter he went like crazy. He then spent 3 months looking for Brendan all over America until he found them, and decided to spend the rest of his life with him searching for vampires. This doesn't seem like something a boy would do for any other boy, probably not even if they're good friends, let alone meeting for only one night.
The characters obviously had connection, chemistry, cared for each other and showed genuine interest. Sure, this could sum up a very good friendship, but considering that the guys barely knew each other, it makes me think there was probably something else going on, maybe just me, but a bit of physical attraction, at least? They were definitely both hot.
It was also kind of homoerotic how they decided to stay for each other at the end. Awww...
I definitely liked this movie (despite what everyone else says) and liked the subtle homo undertone of it all. It definitely made the movie a bit sexy despite all the gore and violence, because the girls weren't at all sexy in this film.
I think this could have a sequel or maybe even a comic concerning the two guys killing vampires throughout the world as a team, and also having some relationship drama between them that eventually pushes them to fall for each other and go to the next level. That would make some great movie, TV series or comic series for sure... I'd read it! This would also make great yaoi manga... Hmm, many ideas come to my mind with this movie...
Hey, also, Kerr Smith played one of the best known gay characters in American television, (Jack McPhee, DAWSON's CREEK 1998-2003). Was he possibly considered for the part because he would know how to bring and endearing but sexy gay vampire hunter? I'd like to think so. He certainly did a good job in this movie, his performance was excellent, plus he was really hot and sexy in this (motel scene with the boxer shorts... YUM!)
