Hmmm...thoughts

I saw this movie years ago and really liked it. Something about it mirrored my own obsession with these types of men (Johnny Rebel). I recently got to watch it again, I'm older and a little bit more mature and hopefully wiser now.

I didn't like as much now as I did when I was younger. One thing that bothers me is how they constantly remind you that Johnny is straight or gay for pay...whatever. I'm sorry but the second that you start using a guy to suck you, or fluff you, or you have sex with another guy, that no longer puts you in the perfectly straight category in my book. Do note, I'm not saying that this would make someone gay, but it doesn't make you straight either. If that were the case, me being gay, I could get paid to do straight porn, which I could never do because that does absolutely nothing for me, there isn't enough viagra or money in the world to make me do this. Ugh!

I'm bothered by how the film portrays everything as black and white and everyone fits into neat little categories, and this is RARELY the case in real life.

What kind of fresh hell is this?

A lot of male actors in gay porn are straight. 100% straight. They perform (keyword: perform on camera) for $$, but they take no joy out of it. It's a job that pays. Depending on the actor, sometimes they aren't even fully erect because sexually they're not into it, so they fake it. It was kind of alluded to in the movie. Sam tells Sean at the first video shoot, to go in for 8 strokes, then go out for 8 strokes, that way if the dick starts getting floppy (no longer fully erect), the audience won't notice. Many big time "gay for play" actors in the 90s had problems with keeping full erections when working with men (Ryan Idol, Ken Ryker, the Rockland brothers). Jeff Stryker, a porn legend, who is straight in real life was one of the few who keep a full rock hard erection during sex.

There was another gay porn actor in the 70s named Johnny Wrangler. He was 100% gay, but he crossed over into straight porn. I've never seen his films (just a documentary about him), but he said he was able to perform on command in straight film, even though he wasn't attracted to women. He eventually married a woman, Margaret Whiting, a celebrity much older than him, but he always claimed to be 100% gay.
