Ideas for Monkey five.

Ideas for puzzles/characters/the interface/islands/story etc are welcome.

I have just one.

I quite like the idea of a fully 3D free roaming environment where you can run around in fully rendered environments, I love the previous four games but I would like to see less of a static backdrop.

I, on the other hand, would prefer the classic point-&-click experience... Although that will never happen.

I can't see that happening. If you look at Lucasarts website, most of their games are star Wars themed because they can just basically release a half-arsed game and it sells. Until that changes games like these won't get a look-in. As for point and click it is a bit dated when on the other hand you can have a 3D adventure.

i'm torn between 3d vs. point & click. i like aspects of both. i'm a whore for graphics but i love the subtle gameplay of the old lucasarts titles. the backdrops were a staple for VGs done back in the day, even with sierra's titles. for some reason it took me a while to get used to using a game controller with guybrush. i guess my vote goes for the old school engine.

for some reason guybrush's voice never sat right with me. armato is a decent enough voice actor. he's no billy west...but hey who is? but for some reason i had always imagined guybrush's voice sounding a little more stronger and self assured, but with with a sarcastic/dimwitted flare, kind of like jack burton (kurt russell, big trouble in little china) i know you're gonna hate me for this too but i think he looks like a wuss. the new threepwood looks like he can't even try to grow a beard.(remember lechuck's revenge?) he just looks too dorky. they gotta make him look more like a meathead.

for me, the writing and jokes have always been spot on. contemporary tongue-in-cheek one liners, the songs, insult sword fighting!!! monkey combat was pretty funny too.

who knows, it will probably never be made. lucas is too obsessed with his millionth star wars dvd edition in which he includes a featurette of him on the toilet. too many star wars games, not enough monkey island, indiana jones, sam and max, and grim fandando to quench this old nerds thirst. is 29 old?

Personally I found the 3D aspect made the game look terrible. It still worked for Grim Fandango, but for Monkey Island it seemed they took on a completely different style and it just, well, screwed up the atmosphere.

For god's sake...NO MORE MONKEY KOMBAT!!!! I myself would like the actual secret of monkey island to finally be revealed.

Maybe they could create a story off of the 'anti-lechuck' story told by the priest in EFMI

SPOILER

Isn't the actual secret of Monkey Island that there's a giant monkey robot underneath it?

reply

if guybrush was a meathead his whole character wouldn't work, it wouldn't be funny at all.

i havent played EMI but from the pics ive seen the CGI just ruins the whole game. i loved the cartoon-style graphics in the first three games, and if lucas arts do ever get their finger out i would love to see monkey 5 revert to the old style.

I was dissapointed Murray didnt have a bigger role in this.
But I loved the game. Im just waiting for the next MI game.
The voodoo lady did say she had a 5 game contract.
Personally i enjoyed the many references in the game the most.
The laughs ive had....
