Good Grief

What a waste of a golden opportunity for a good drama.

What exactly did she do?....Helped to blow up one train, get very weepy every five minutes, continue to act and look suspicious, and look surprised when she saw Nazi's getting off a train in Nazi occupied France..there was no tension no suspense no 'British Spirit'....And why was it necessary to dye her hair dark brown when nobody in France knew who she was anyway..it just meant she wasted time having to dye her roots every few days.

And would the resistance really carry on with the drops from the plane knowing that the town was infested with Nazi troops specifically looking for them?

If you want to see how a film like this should be done then watch the old black and white film 'Carve Her Name With Pride' starring Virginia McKenna....her character(also based on a real woman) is caught and tortured by the Germans and is eventually executed and she becomes a herione and a martyr...a far superior film

I completely agree with this assessment! I was left feeling very disappointed when I saw it for the first time yesterday. I too was expecting lots of action based on her training but it never materialized. I enjoy romance as much as the next person but found the movie overly melodramatic and unrealistic. It took me great effort not to throw my shoes at the screen when the sappy ending finally arrived. I concur; what a waste of talent!

I think that the film portrayed what most SOE agents did very well. Most of the agents were organisers, wireless operators or couriers. A few SOE agents actually engaged in sabotage against the enemy but it was NOT the norm. The SOE's main job was to coordinate resistance in occupied territories, to arm and fund the Marquis, to encourage passive resistance and to gather intelligence. I portray a SOE agent in 1940's Living History and currently researching the 105 Section F agents who never returned home. I have also spoken to an ex-SOE agent who said the film was an accurate depiction of what SOE agents actually did.
