Eating

Have you noticed that in almost every scene Judd is eating?

It's okay because she eats adorably, but she is constantly eating.

Especially in the first 15 minutes.

I noticed that, too, that there is a TON of eating in this movie ! Like, gratuitous eating. I finally listened to some of the commentary, and the director said something like, this was done deliberately because women are seldom shown eating in this type of movie, possibly because of the skinny standard..? I forget now. But it's related to that scene where she tells Eddie, "That's bad? Women who eat?" It was meant to be a comment on it intentionally.

It could be, too, because eating scenes are notoriously difficult due to continuity issues they present, and of course because the actors have to be constantly spitting out the food, which is unpleasant, obviously. But I guess
we usually see so few women eating in RomComs that, when one actually does, it's distracting.

I could have done with a little less eating in the movie. Or at least, if other characters done more of the eating. Actually I think I could watch Hugh Jackman eat forever hehe.

Maybe it was an unconscious thing relating to New Cow Theory, too. Since cows are always chewing, Jane (as a new cow) is always shown munching on something?

I've been watching this movie online for the past 10-15 mins and what struk me is the main character eating most of the time. WTF is this, the Food Channel?
I understand the intention of giving the whole plot a casual atmosphere but this is too much; she can also drink, smoke or play with herself for a change, why the constant eating? She is taking a bath in one of the scenes but I imagine that she eats the cucumber slices in the director's cut.

Inexperienced producers, bad script and horrible directing are to blame. I will return to watching the movie but I have very low expectations from this point on.

Funny topic. The Chinese food is the first thing that came to mind for me, too. I didn't really notice the eating, but now that I think about it, there was the popcorn she dropped and the cereal she ate with Ray. I seem to remember her munching on something like a carrot or celery stick, but I'm not sure....and there was the scene when Ray tried to give her something in a bag from the bakery or whatever, but she flinged it right into the trash.

Anyway, now I have reason to see this film again, so I can notice all the eating, lol. I got the DVD for just a few bucks a couple of months ago. I still need to see the director's cut.

People eat cotton candy. This is
better...it's made out of real cotton.

There's also the scene were she is with Jackman in their apartment and she's mindlessly eating Oreos. She was clearly eating them. I guess she was hungry as there was no relevance to the scene. In contrast, she had to eat the Chinese food for that scene to work.
