Don't people ever get tired?

Don't people get sick of the same story over and over again??? How can they still make this kind of movie?

It's the same old story that has been told and retold for centuries, particularly the last few decades, when we have been overwhelmed with so many stories, all identical.

At least they've made it more charming before, like in Audrey Hepburn classics.

Honestly..........

I think the reason people are drawn to the allbeit cliche romantic comedy is becuase we, as human beings, spend life searching for love, romance, lust, or little peice of happines...whatever.

So, any movie that expounds that is going to be somewhat agreeable. I mean, there are multitudes of romantic comedies out there, like this one, that you walk out of going, "this is really cute." There's not a lot more to it, but it's enjoyable becuasee you get to see acouple work out, which is something we desire so greatly in our own relationships

And you could argue that all cop dramas are the same and have been done and redone all the time, or comedy. "There is nothing new under the sun" Hercule Poirot said and that is very much true. But also people who post threads like this are the same in every topic on IMDB. So it's all kind of redundant huh?

yea...this kind of story has been refilmed many times...
i feel a little bit tired of this kind of story too...
also, i understand that this one is not considered as a classical one like sleepless in seatle etc.

but...somehow...i personally like this one a lot
(except the ending, the ending is ...hmm...rough)...
and i like Ashley's performance...
she is cute in this one but not over cute like Meg...
and Hugh is very charming as well...(in my opinion...he is more charming than in Kate and Leopold...i mean...this role is more HIM)

anyway...it's suitable to watch it at weekend night... ^^

Well, just because this kind of movie has been filmed over and over again doesnt mean they cant do it anymore. It just means that it will be a greater challenge for them to make it better. If its enjoyable and good, i wouldnt mind watching and i will also love it just liek i loved someone like you.

Romantic comedies are definitely not for everybody. They seem to be considered Chick Flicks, and a specialty thing even within that. Some chicks probably hate them!

I like some of them. Definitely NOT the whole genre, but some depending on who's in them. Actually I think they are made deliberately to satisfy people's romantic obsessions/fantasies with particular actors, and that market will always exist, so that's why they keep making them. They are sort of like the counterpoint to testosterone-driven action flicks starring A-List male celebrities. Maybe those are like male viewer fantasies come to life in a similar way? And that is another long-standing market.

There have been some REALLY annoying romantic comedies, for sure. There are a lot of bland, boring celebrities that get cast in them for their cuteness rating. I'm afraid Ashley Judd is *almost* one of them, but then, Hugh Jackman is stellar and awesome and unique, so it's ok with me.

Actually, Roman Holiday, with Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck, is much more "realistic" than most romantic films. Peck's character is a struggling journalist. WARNING: ENDING REVEALED. We all know that at the end of Roman Holiday they aren't destined to be together.

Dude, you could say that about every genre of film. The action movie has been done to death. The romantic comedy is done. All sci-fi steals from something else. And so on and so on. The only thing movie makers can attempt is to breathe some new life into a familiar concept, or to re-invent a genre by messing with what people feel like they already know. All I'm saying.

Because it's just so romantic and cheesy and UNLIKE real life.. it's a complete escape from reality.

THAT'S why we love seeing this kinda thing over and over. Real life is full of so many dramas and issues..

Watching a movie like this lifts your mood when the realities of life get you down.

Movies are my therapy hehe

And you would know, right, Stan?

I guess not...like you say, the same old story has been told and retold for centuries...and folks keep watching it. That means there's an audience for such things. I like them.

If I were you, I'd be on the lookout for other kinds of stories than happy ending romantic comedies. Because in order for them to be popular, they have to have happy endings. I don't watch Nicholas Sparks movies over and over again because they generally don't have the traditional happy ever after story book endings.
