Dogtown and Z-boys

Has anyone else noticed the similarities between Rocket Power and the Dogtwon skaters. For thoes people who dont know who the Dogtwon skaters are go buy the documenter Dogtown and Z-boys, if your a skateboard fan you will not be disiponited.

Now i know this show isn't that good but could you not scearm that on this thread please. I just want to know if anyone else sees the similarities between the people who changed Skateboarding forever and this slightly good show.

I really thought I was the only one who noticed this..and by looking at the trailer, the main Z-boy, Tony Alva, he reminds me of Otto.

I noticed the similarities too. Obviously Rocket Power is building off the stereotypes of action/extreme athletes and California youth mentalaties. However, all stereotypes have some basis in reality.

But, after watching Lords of Dogtown I noticed the following . . .

. . . Otto does indeed look very similar to Tony Alva

. . . Sid and Squid not only have similar sounding names, they also are the "nerdy" guys that get to "hang" with the skate kids

. . .from Rocket Power Reggie is a girl with long hair and a what is more often a boy's name and in Dogtown Stacy Peralta is a boy with long hair and a what is more often a girl's name.

. . . Madtown could be a takeoff of Dogtown.

I don't want to make a big deal of it. I'm sure it would be just as easy to find similiarities between Rocket Power and the Scooby Doo Gang if you really tried.

I agree with some stuff here, and disagree with some.
First off: I have to agree with the Alva part. Otto was cocky, greedy, and looked like a young Alva. Definately a similarity.

Second: Sid wasn't a read person. He was based off of a kid named "Dino" who like to hang with Jay Adams. Dino got brain cancer, so his dad drained their pool (Dino's family really was rich), so the boys could skate. There's also some stuff saying that part of Sid's character was based off of a few Z-Boys that weren't in the movie.

Third: I'd say Sam was more of a Stacy, because Stacy and Sam are both very quiet, and not as recognized as the other boys. But, when they are recongnized, people see their talent.

Fourth: I slightly agree with this, but i'd say Reggie was more of a Peggy Oki than a Stacy. She was an only girl skater mixed in with a bunch of guys, but she ripped like a pair of scissors.

Fifth: The whole Madtown/Dogtown similarity, I couldn't agree more. But I think Madtown was only a section of Dogtown, not the whole thing. Ocean Shores was the whole thing. Madtown was just one of the many places the boys would go to skate. The pier with the Shack and the Theme Park could be the Pacific Ocean Pier. The area behind the pier and madtown is the "California Incline", which had a huge influence on west-coast skating.

I wish I could actually talk to the creators of Rocket Power to see if the Dogtown/Z-Boys story had anything to do with the making of the show.
