Is this where Nick started to get bad?

I remember kinda watching this show...if nothing else was on..but it really was stupid and the kids were annoying. no complaints about realism or whatever, its just that none of the characters were likeable and the kids came off as annoying little stuck up twerps, kinda like the kids from saved by the bell but even lamer. I think this is where nick was starting its downfall, to where it is now, a mere shadow of its former self. this and the wild thornberries were just bad, including later rugrats post Dill and even spongebob, which was amusing at first, was just plain stupid later.

Realism, Remakes and Unnecessary Sequels are ruining movies!

Yes, to this day I consider the downfall of Nick started with 3 shows. Rocket Power, The Angry Beavers, and Catdog. I pretty much stopped watching Nick at that point. I just couldn't stand any shows on Nick.

I strongly disagree, I loved this show and there were still plenty of great shows on Nick after this one like Invader ZIM, All Grown Up, Danny Phantom, My Life As A Teenage Robot, Fairly OddParents, TMNT and Wild Thornberry's.

reply

No, Nick still had good shows in the early '00s. IMO, Nick started to get bad when shows like "Romeo" and "My Life as A Teenage Robot" debuted on Nick.

what mrjgman said.

When My Life as a Teenage Robot,The Fairly Odd parents, and The Mighty B showed up, that is when Nick's plane landed...slid...slide around on the runway, and crashed into a horrible death.

Icarly is ok. It is not My Brother and Me, Shelby Woo, or Keenan and Kel, but I feel like it has a little hint of that old skool Nick flavor.

Spongbob started out ok, and then it just crash and burned too.

The Mighty B and fairly odd parents were promising, but there is just something missing.

When Dill and kimi showed up on Rugrats...The show was forevermore doomed. Dill was basically just a noisemaker.

And Kimi was a girly, sassy cow girl version of Tommy.

As someone who grew up with Nickelodeon next to my Children's Illustrated Bible, I have no idea what is on Nickelodeon today.

My Life as a Teenage Robot was great, though...

Scorpion, I just wanted to tell you that I think I "get" this show now. Like I said I used to hate it, but I'm starting to like it :).

reply

Really glad to hear it man! I would recommend you also check out some more Danny Phantom and Invader ZIM.

reply

They're both on my list to give a rewatch! :). Along with Angry Beavers and Aaahh Real Monsters (neither which I was a fan of).

Angry Beavers was an incredible show. You have to be a fan of surreal, ironic comedy. The only problem was that they replayed the same damn episodes over and over while neglecting other episodes (Nickelodeon has a good track record of doing this to other shows as well, R&S comes to mind).

reply

I'm sorry but a lot of those shows are to me what started the downfall save for Zim, Thornberry's and Oddparents. TMNT didn't come on Nick, it came on FOX.

When Nickelodeon Studios started moving its production and everything from Florida to California in 2000/2001 that was when everything about the network and its shows began to decline in quality. It was apparent that when Nickelodeon changed its physical location everything about the old Nickelodeon was left behind. They changed their philosophy, they changed their programming, they changed their focus, and they changed their priorities. For me, that was when the signs started to show up. Definitely by 2004/2005 Nickelodeon was a complete mess and they have never recovered since then. They just continue getting worse and worse and it's really sad. I grew up in the 90's when Nickelodeon was at its prime. I look at Nickelodeon now and I don't even recognize it. Its become such a bastardized version of itself. If it wasn't for the 90's block at night I wouldn't even bother remembering what channel Nickelodeon is on my tv line-up.

It's all a matter of opinion, and age too probably. I liked Nick in the early 2000s (Rocket Power, Rugrats, CatDog, The Wild Thornberries, Spongebob, Fairly OddParents, The Amanda Show, All That, As Told By Ginger, Chalkzone, All Grown Up, Jimmy Neutron, etc.).

As I got older, I didn't care for the newer Nicktoons but I still liked Zoey 101, Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide, and I LOVED Drake & Josh.

reply

It really all depends on which Nick era you grew up in to decide where it declined.

I was born in 95, so some people would not consider me a 90's kid when it comes to 90's TV. Though my favorites shows during the 90's were Rugrats, All That, Clarissa Explains it All, Pete and Pete, etc...

I was never a fan of the All That Revival with Jamie Lynn Spears, I much preferred the original show. I liked The Amanda Show up until it became one or two sketches and then Moodys Point for the rest of the episode. Never liked Drake and Josh, iCarly's humor was terrible, Sam and Cat sucked.

I think that other than Fairly Odd Parents and SpongeBob Nick really hasn't had very much to offer when it comes to Cartoons currently. Yes the new TMNT is on Nick and I hear it is decent, and Avatar apparently was a good show but I just never could get into it, it clearly was a show made for adults like how Batman The Animated Series were.

I don't really think Rugrats got bad until Kimmy came along. Maybe the Dill episodes were not very good, but they weren't as bad as the Kimmy episodes, that's when it could no longer be enjoyed by older people. I was like 5 when those episodes started and I thought they were terrible back then.

Rocket Power was terrible, My Life as a Teenage Robot started out ok but became unbearably boring. I think Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide was the only thing worth watching in the past 15 years. I honestly don't think they would be able to revive a show like Hey Arnold or Doug by Nick's standards today where they are just starting to follow Disney Channel's superstar format that it is now trying to abandon.
