kirie - dead or alive?

It seems that Kirie dies from Suichi (sp?) at the end, but then isn't she also the person narrating the story? Is she dead or alive?

reply

I think she is dead,it would seem no one in that town lived.

reply

I say she's dead.

reply

I think she's dead since in the manga she was dead, along with Shuichi

reply

i think she lived, since she is telling the story, but shes just locked up somewhere in a looney bin.

I'm confused about this too. Either way, the point of the movie (well...not really "the point" as the movie doesn't seem too concerned with having one) is that she loses. She and her boyfriend didn't leave the town, and are doomed one way or the other.

However, it would seem that everyone in the town was killed and that Kirie was probably the last victim to be "taken in" by the spirals.

reply

It's not quite that simple. As the film's title suggests, as well as the title of the final chapter ("reincarnation," "transmigration"), the movie itself is a spiral or loop. Thus the final scene is Kirie (re-)introducing the film.

reply

I agree of sorts. Each person gets their own version of the curse of the spiral and it seems she must repeat the tale over and over like a record in a spiral. She is either like zombie ghost thingie or not starved to death yet like the girl with the hair or something along those lines.

Remakes suck.

When they showed Shuichi all spiraled and whatnot, Kirie was nowhere near him. If he had killed her, wouldn't her corpse have been nearby?

I wanna say she escaped but I think she died. Besides, arent the closing lines just the beginning of the manga?

Nobody escapes the curse. I think that's the point.
