It would be a mistake to not continue this series

The first two games of this series established a great character in a cool setting with a great story line. To abandon this character now makes no sense to me. Even if the third installment fell short of expectations that doesn't mean things can't be improved upon in future versions.

My computer doesn't support the version of Thief 3 I got, so I haven't played it yet, so what happened in it?

I'm assuming they brought it an age ahead again, and if they did, I really don't think it would be a good idea to keep making more and more modern "Thief"'s. The whole charm of Thief is the age in which it's set, I personnaly prefered The Dark Project to The Metal Age and though The Metal Age was more advance and everything, The Dark Ages stories were just far better.

I'm talking about the Hammers vs. the Mechanists, The Hammers win hands down.

What do you think? And who was the main villain in 3?

Do you think a nice cool mint would help if I shoved your head up your ass?

The villan was the witch Gamal. They didn't follow up on the story of what happened to the Mechanists. I made a post on the Deadly Shadows board that goes into a little more detail without revealing too much of the story. This time the Keepers pay a price and the end of the game suggests that this was the last installment but I have heard a rumor that they plan to continue the series though your fears may be correct, they are going to modernize it. I agree that this would be a mistake. The two things they need to do is work on a better story with better levels that are not just fruitless paper chases and to make the levels larger with more interaction with the environment.

Most Thief gamers loved the freedom to try things out with the physics engine on the Dark Project, some very neat tricks could be achieved. They also enjoyed the different styles of play that could be encouraged.

Thief3 for me, for all the fun that it was, lost some of its charm in its new guise.

*spoiler*

considering the ending, I'm going to guess that if a new thief comes out, you'll play as the girl he grabs at the end. It would make for an interesting change of pace even though I love Garret.

Ah, I've played it since, I highly enjoyed it for its gameplay, but it definitely didn't feel as... complete as the previous two.

I agree re: "The two things they need to do is work on a better story with better levels that are not just fruitless paper chases and to make the levels larger with more interaction with the environment."

Also, they shouldn't continue and make a fourth, a spinoff wouldn't be unforgivable though....

Actually if they took it in the direction that Half-Life did, like with how they made Opposing Force and Blue Shift, that'd be downright Nifty... Ya know taking characters from, say the mechanists, hammers, or even just some figure from the Keepers....

Oooh... I like it.

This confession has meant nothing.

I'm with you. Ever since I played TDP I've been addicted to I have played all the possible FMs. I'm only half way through TMA, and while it IS fun and it IS well done, to me it simply doesn't capture the same feel as the first episode. I mean I just really liked the dark, gritty, abstract feeling of TDP, not to mention all the fantasy and paranormal elements.

If they ever do a Thief 4, I really hope it supports multiplayer and that it is designed by a group as creative minded as Looking Glass Studios. I'd hate for it to be overly commercialized and ruin the epic storyline that the first two games developed.
