Ever since the fantastic success of "Tomb Raider" as a film, I've been itching to see what could be done with a film based on Thief. Too bad the lack of discussion here seems to indicate a lack of real interest.

I'd like to see Gerard Butler (Lara Croft's Irish partner in "Cradle of Life") as Garrett. With a cameo by Sean Connery as Garrett's Keeper mentor.

I've always pictured Guy Pearce as Garrett for some reason. Possibly because of the Thief 2 box art. Can't find any word on such a project though.

You know, i really think they should get one of those no-name actors to play him. You know the ones, no big name in media, but an awesome freakin' actor and they play the role right.

I think the actor should play the game first too.

Definitely a good choice. When I first saw Viggo in LOTR - The Fellowship of the Ring, with that hood over his head, I instantly thought: Garrett.

Nicolas Cage. I like Vigo Mortensen, but seeing him with a sword would be too LOTR'ish

Stephen Russel? All they need to do is fix up a hood so looks hardly matter, and the voice would bother me more than the appearance, considering the first person view.

I think that if they make a thief based movie as the fans would like it to be made then it will be one of the greates movies ever like the video game.
But I think that only I can play Garrett's role because feel really conected to his personality and I can do russel's voice too.

I am all for a Thief movie. Without a doubt it would totally rawk esp. with some voice acting and a storyline that was on par with the game. I mean TDP and Thief II show astounding creative development effort something you just don't see with most fast action shooters today. So if anything it deserves to be made into a screenplay. To be honest, I'm mostly concerned about who they'd cast as the Hammerites it was their religious and cultural conflict with the Pagans they truly made Thief 1 work as a whole (and of course the Hammer successors in Thief 2). Not to mention those divine scriptures were so on par with the exactly what you'd think of a steampunk world. To not make a Thief movie would be almost an insult to everyone who has bought and played the Thief series up to now :)

Thief is an amazing game series and a movie would be fantastic. If only most directors who make video game based movies end up ruining it. Personally I think Milo Ventimiglia from Heroes would play a wicked Garrett. I could also see people like Bill Nighy, Billy Connelly and even Geoffry Rush playing in this too. A lot can be done with the story if they go with it.

Steven Strait would be an idea for a young Garrett if to appear.

Other, hm, I know that there´s not much seen of the Keepers, but Eric Roberts would be cool!

I've been thinking about what a Thief film would be like... i sodding LOVE the games and there are many possibilities. However the sneaking about would have to be downplayed so much... think of all the films with sneaking past people scenes and think how bored you were. For starters, if you're only mid way through a film the audience KNOW you're not going to get caught or killed. The fun of the game would be stripped through filmic narrative conventions, forging a plot surrounding the hammers, pagans and keepers and more about double-crossing than tip-toeing.

A live action would be great, But I wouldn't mind if the movie was done in the style of the in game movies. I always loved the look of the them in these games.

I have no idea who should play Garret but I always pictured the actor of medium frame maybe even a little smaller. Someone that isn't too muscular, so that he looks like he's better off taking to the shadows rather than a full on assault.
