I never knew that MI was based on a theme park attraction.. is that true, someone can confirm that?

Yep, some of the inspiration towards the game was the Pirates of the Caribbean ride in Disney. You can see it more clearly in Monkey Island 2 when Guybrush is in jail and the dog is holding the key - an exact same scene from the attraction. Also, the dog is called Walt ... (i.e. Walt Disney) :D
