Just get ScummVM from
http://www.scummvm.org
ScummVM allows you to run Monkey Island 1 & 2 and all the other old great Lucasfilm Games on Windows XP, Mac OS X or Linux systems.
Thanks. Is it difficult to use as i'm no computer wiz, just a fan of vintage gaming
sharei got a copy of a dvd of all 4 games and they all work on my computer ( with xp).
Which came first the virus or the anti-virus!
Did you buy it off a guy on ebay?I missed out on one of his copies as he was taken off ebay.Maybe he will return in the future
shareI have available playable verisions of Monkey Island 1 & 2 on CD for XP, with music. if interested please contact me at [email protected] id be willing to sell the cd cheap.
shareI managed to play the first game with no problems at all but in the 3rd game I encounter major problems. I get to the part where the ship leaves Puerto Pollo and then the game freezes and I get a debug error. It tells me to 'exit' to return to the game but it still freezes.
I'm running it with ScummVM having copied all the files from the CDs to the hard drive.
Can anyone please advise me on where I'm going wrong? I'd love to complete the game again.
I'd suggest googling for an update patch. It may even be worth trying to run it normally without ScummVM, as its a more recent game I'm sure it'd run on modern windows without trouble.
Another thought, is that there is something you need to do on Peurto Pollo before leaving, which the game requires you to do before leaving, but never got trapped for properly in the code. (But that's a rank outsider)
I managed to complete everything in Puerto Pollo before I left. I tried running it normally but that didn't work.
I even tried changing the compatability mode back to Windows 95 and then Windows 98/Me but it didn't do any good.
I guess I'll just have to wait and see whether or not they release 'Special Editions' of games 2-4.
The Lucasarts site (http://www.lucasarts.com/games/monkeyisland/) links to an Xbox version and a PC version. The PC version runs through Steam and it works fine on XP. I just finished the Steam version of Monkey Island 1 special edition (http://store.steampowered.com/app/32360/). It has new hi-res graphics, but you can switch between old and new graphics with F10 at any time.
I couldn't find any other version for XP, only the Steam version so you'd have to install Steam first. If you don't have it, you can download it at http://store.steampowered.com/about/
