I Remember Watching 9/11

it was after school and i was watching it when they cut into it to talk more about the bombings and of course i didn't mind because that news was huge but i did remember they didn't show it again after that report. this was one of my fav shows. why did it suddenly end. surely it wasn't because of the attack. they're not even connected.

It was never meant to be anything more than a 65 episode show. They did an entire series in the thirteen-week time span that usually is alotted for one "story arc" on other daily soaps.

It was planned to be an ongoing show; a regular soap opera. It just never got picked up for a second season, that's all...

Yeah...it was written to be an ongoing show (i.e. Natalia starting work at the Tree Frog foundation and Taylor's pregnancy and Julie overdosing on drugs and alcohol) but like said before, it wasn't picked up. Pity. It would've been phenominal.

Yea, I kinda always thought it got cancelled for the on screen kiss between two men in a 7:00pm time slot during the season finale. I mean, MTV is progressive, but I'm pretty sure a scene like that, due to the lovely male sexuality double standard in the United States, would warrant a lot of attention from all those Family groups and the extreme christian right. Because otherwise, I think the show pretty much had all the classic elements of a great soap, just that same sex thing that is hardly ever addressed in real soap operas. But anyway, I liked it, the show was something I looked forward to, didn't involve snooty characters spending a whole scene brooding like in Y&R.

It sucked the way it ended to. You never know if she was gonna tell sasha if she was actually his mother... made me very mad!

reply

that is sooo crazy because i was doing the same thing...man i wanted to see who killed....i don't even remember now...man...

I also remember watching this show religiously up until 9/11. As a matter of fact I remember specifically that they were going to show more episodes and then 9/11 happened, when MTV didn't play any shows for a couple days, and then when shows started coming back, Spyder Games didn't. They HAD to have planned for more episodes. I saw a commercial one day around that time for it that was advertising that you would find out who killed Boris, though obviously you wouldn't. ::sigh:: Good show...too bad...

Wow. It was totally the same way for me when I got home from school that day. The show just cut out and it never came back on.

They really need to make a DVD for it.

reply

Yeah they need it on dvd!
So was anything revealed on the 2nd season when it aired in Canada?

Elrond- "I looked into your future, & I saw death"
Arwen- "But there was also life..."

I remember that, too. It was definitely a guilty pleasure, b/c honestly the quality was only a notch or 2 above Spanish novellas. But the plot lines were just insanely addictive!! It was definitely a conscious decision on the part of MTV not to bring it back. They'd hyped the show to hell and back, b/c I remember it premiering immediately after the VMAs that year, and this girl @ work and me both got hooked on it even though we thought it was pretty trashy. Had 9/11 not happened, it could've easily gotten picked up for another season, since the reality shows hadn't saturated MTV five years ago.
