A good movie

I enjoyed this movie, but I'm surprised there isn't more discussion about it on here. Mainly because there are a few things I was unclear on and I wanted to know what others thought.
For example, all the consumer goods are cardboard boxes made to look like TVs, Briefcases, etc, but what are they using to masquerade as all those old '50s cars?
Were the guys in bio hazard suits and white Merc van part of the illusion too, the part where some people have to feel they are in charge?
If everyone is in the virtual world, who provides food? What do people actually eat?
