About the Violin tune Lully plays...

Does anyone know the name of the song Lully plays with his violin several times throughout the film? The first time he comes to play it together with a few of his musicians before the door of the king's bedroom when he's almost dying after falling into that swamp. It's a slow and somewhat romantic tune, I guess it was composed by the real Lully. I'd really like to find it!

Thank you!

No idea, but I think a soundtrack to the movie was published - maybe there you can find the piece.

I am pretty sure that is the:

Intermedes de Xerxes: 2e Air pour les postures de Scaramouche

This can be found on the CD:

Lully: Ballet Music For The Sun King

It is track number 15.

You can listen to a free sample at Amazon.co.uk to make sure this is the right piece.

Good luck!

Can't help with an exact title but you would be well advised to go out and purchased the CD Soundtrack of the film which gives you a complete listing of what's been used. The players are a German ensemble called Antiqua Köln. And yes - all the pieces played in the film and on the CD are composed by Jean-Baptiste Lully who resided at the Sun King's court for many years.
