Is this film ever going to get English subtitles on a dvd release?

i'm looking forward to getting it on dvd one way or the other but i really hope it has english subtitles too - no matter how i research it online, i can't find out if it has subtitles or not

i'll let you know how i get on if you want to mail me

it doesn't have english subtitles. i bought mine from fnac in paris in person yesterday and looked if there was another version. they do have french subtitles (for the hard of hearing, supposedly) but it helps if you understand some french and can't catch all the dialog.

There are some .srt subs on various p2p networks, but i'm not sure how one would go about combining the subs with the video on a dvd. And there's always the issue of mismatched timing.

you should try to get it from Canada, the dvd there is with english subtitles.

i ordered it off amazon.com, where i got an original french language version from a third-party seller. when you start the movie you choose whether you want the menu settings in french or english, and from there decided whether you want french or english subtitles (or none) during the movie. also, the DVD starts out w/the trailer, which is dubbed in english (you can also see it in french, accessible from the extras part of the french menu), but there is no actual english dubbed version of the movie on the DVD.

Nope - tried that and was told only French!!! I ended up with Dutch subs when I purchased my copy from www.bol.com. OK for me who speaks/read/writes the language fluently but no good for the rest of Britain!! Canada (via an eBay seller) helped me out with the CD Soundtrack though.

A lovely person has put up the film on youtube with English subtitles. They can consider me a friend for life!

Well, my thanks is belated, but then I just found this board. Off to youtube. I would not have guessed it would be there.

One way to deal with this type of problem is to take a dvd and play it on a computer using software that can incorporate subtitles. (You may have to convert the DVD to a format your player will understand.) You can find subtitles for many films at, for instance, opensubtitles.org/en/search/

I think VLC media player can handle playing a movie in combination with subtitles obtained from a separate source like this (you just have to jump through a few hoops to get the right settings worked out). If not, there are other media players that can.
