Jesse and Frank James did exist, the Younger brothers did exist, the home of the James's mother was burned and she did die, and the Pinkerton Agency did track the James-Younger Gang for a while.

Other than that any historical accuracy is so lost it is nearly incalculable to determine how much. Talk about literary license.
