I watched this again the other night. The scenes when he is recording that dreadful song "how do you sleep" are awful, excrutiating and infantile. It really shows what a five star dick Lennon could be at times. The bit when Yoko starts directing him to direct the band are laughable.
I remember seeing an interview with Lennon a few years after this was shot when he said "how do you sleep" could have been about himself. After all he was using heroin at the time and had not long emerged halfway through Primal therapy.
I love most of Lennon's music but he was a very nasty person at times. Of course 90% of people ignore this becuase of his tragic killing and his subsequent sainthood in the media.

He was clearly a complex man. But I'm pretty sure 'How Do You Sleep' was in response to the song 'Too Many People' Paul had recorded before. It isn't as nasty as Lennon's, but he started it.

The difference between Lennon being a dick and McCartney being a dick is that at least John knew when he was being a dick.

The song your'e thinking of where he claims he's directing it at himself was Steel & Glass from Walls And Bridges. It was basically How Do You Sleep II. Yes, ol' John was a man of contradictions, like many of us. It's just that he made his garbage public.
