Writers too Stupid to know it was Rape

I think when the writers were writing this movie they needed a clever way he slips up but wins the girl away.

So they created a scene where he decides to tie himself to the bed(which is stupid because at this point he should be used to no sex) which making him helpless, next is the rape scene Im pretty sure the dumb writers didn't think it was rape when they writing it.

Basicly the dumb writes couldn't come up with a way to make him lose not on purpose.

I liked the movie, but I agree, the ending was really stupidly thought out.

Why resort to rape?

Seriously.

10% of life, is what happens to you.

90% is how you respond to it.

reply

Just saw this for the first time, I found the ending jaw dropping to say the least.

Not only do they throw a rape into the middle of a comedy movie... but the victim's girlfriend then turns around and directly blames HIM for being raped. And nobody else thinks this attitude is the least bit strange. And he winds up having to crawl to her to get her to forgive him for being raped.

What the hell? I just cannot imagine what they were thinking.

Nobody thinks it's strange because that's what women do; they shamelessly take advantage of the fact that everyone presumes that they're automatically innocent just for being women. Don't believe me? You can easily find examples in our judicial system of women getting lower sentences than men for the same crime.

reply

Men are disapraportionately responsible for crimes of a sexual nature, whether it be assault or molestation. The population of offenders who are male is extreme.

By that philosophy, female offenders should actually have harsher sentences than male offender because they're held to a higher standard.

Sentencing should be equal no matter how you break down percentages. Child abuse is primarily perpetrated by females and yet they still get lighter sentences.

reply

You're wrong. The distribution of sex offenders is quite even.

reply

You have to be outside of your mind if you think that is true. I would challenge you to site some sources on that. I'm all about equality, but this assertion is just ridiculous.

The problem wasn't her "blaming" him. The problem was that he was supposedly a "bad liar" and she didn't BELIEVE him.

I got into an argument with my roomate the other day, she insisted it wasn't rape. Entirely too many people seem to agree with her.

It is rape. He never consented to it and was sleep. It is rape.

reply

Oh my--that is the most messed up thing!!! If the genders were reversed, you would never hear the end of it... what a *beep* up world we live in, when people think a helpless man is responsible for getting raped.

reply

You mean "If sexes were reversed" Gender is a linguistic term, refering to words.

reply

Shut the *beep* up. You know what he meant.

reply

Ask her if it would be ok for you or anyone else to #$%^ her while she is out cold either from sleep or drugs

reply

Rape is rape. No comedy should ever use a rape scene of any kind. It is something that should never cause desensitization.

Definitely rape. I was kind of shocked, they would throw in that kind of dark material in such a light comedy. I was appalled, when they pretended like it wasn't any big deal, and it was Josh Hartnett's fault.

reply

Of course it was rape. That scene, obviously, bothered me the most about this movie. Kind of ruined it for me.

reply

Glad I'm not the only one who noticed this then. Is it just me or is that Erica the most unreasonable woman in the world. She gets pissed off when she finds out he has sworn himself to celibacy, then flips out when she finds out he has an ex-girlfriend (shock, horror), and then when he is raped at the end, I just couldn't believe it. He has to beg for forgiveness, and the bitch of an ex won the cash prize didn't she?
And for anyone doubting that it was rape, it was non-consensual, and an aggravating factor was that he was forced to orgasm when he didn't want to, that would in fact increase a rape sentence past the average, as it is potentially damaging to the person who is being raped to actually get some 'enjoyment' out of it(at least that's what it's like with British law).

Actually call me a Psycho because Erica did what she thought and wanted to do. She is a girl who has been hurt by many guys before and since she knew of Matt's vow she supported him even getting a flower oragasm because of the no sex rule. So when his ex girlfriend raped him and she, Erica, saw the big smile on the ex girlfriend, she jumped to conclusions thinking that he wanted it to happen and he let his ex in to service him. You would have to be a gulliable idiot of a girl to not jump to the same conclusion. Also sometimes almost all women have very high expectations of their guys so when their guys don't meet the expectations then it is hard to swallow for the girl.

As well I am a big fan of the movie and it was a rape scene but not the worst rape scene, I have seen, check out Death Wish 1-4 for really bad rape scenes. Trust me you will be scared for awhile.

reply

The issue isn't if it was a bad or scary rape scene. The issue is too many people (including my roomate) insist that it wasn't rape. The creators of the film in my opinion were irresponsible to portray a rape scene as a device in a romantic comedy and not awknowledge the seriousness of the situation. Even if the scene didn't seem brutal, it was still a crime and can could still be traumatic for the victim. Everytime I hear someone insist that it wasn't rape, I feel sick to my stomach.

It's definitely rape. He never consented to it and that's automatically a rape.

Unfortunately our justice system and even society is so fu<ked up that anything women does is considered innocent and when the gender roles are reversed, the same actions will cause all hell to break loose.

I like comedies. I can take toilet jokes, adult jokes, homosexuality jokes, race and ethnicity jokes...basically anything but rape should never be part of comedies. It's a crime nomatter how you look at it.

One of the worst endings ever. If the rape wasn't bad enough, Matt had to send Erica a precious gift to win her over, for him being raped? OMG! It's like saying men are pigs and anything you to do them is fine but touch a women, you go to jail.

I don't think we're totally sure it was rape. She could've been working him 2-handed while straddling him....

reply

He was raped. All you have to do is remove gender from the description.

The victim was restrained to a bed in an indefensible position. While the victim was asleep, the assailant slipped in uninvited and proceeded to have non-consensual sex with the victim.

Anyone can clearly see this is rape. If a girl is passed out drunk and a guy has sex with her then everyone would agree it's rape.

reply

Even so it would be considered a form of sexual assault - it might be considered sodomy as well, depending on what the laws are in their jurisdiction (although as a legal term, "sodomy" oftens refers to homosexual sex or anal/oral sex in general being criminalized, sometimes "sodomy" refers essentially to any coerrced sexual activity other than intercourse - i.e. in places where only intercourse counts as rape, "sodomy" essentially means oral, anal, manual, or foreign object rape).

reply

He was raped, then they had the audacity to blame the victim. If the genders were reversed, there would have been a huge public outcry.
