This movie had ZERO plot and pretty much was unwatchable.. the only thing I liked was the clothes from 1981, and the makers did a good job with the hairstyles and wardrobe. Otherwise, I cringed at the gay scene between Bradley Cooper and Michael Ian Black. And laughs were few and stupid. I didn't have high expectations for this film but thought it'd be watchable as the ratings varied from great to bad. Sorry :(
Yeah, agreed. There are parts of this movie that are so funny, I gasped. Michael Showalter is incredible as a writer and performer, why doesn't he get more play?
For anybody that went to "sleep-away" camp in this time period, this film is brilliant satire. I always show this film to friends, and judge their sense of humor by their reactions.
Logically you're on shaky ground. People aren't rating it according to some grand criteria, like Olympic high-dive judges. People rate it according to how much they like it. If they like it, they like it. And it succeeds in making people like it.
In fact, the actual score, before the application of IMDb's home-grown mathematics is: Arithmetic mean = 7.3. Median = 8 Furthermore, 68.4% rate it a 7 or above.
ditto, it's just boring and not really funny. You want a decent spoof? Try Tucker And Dale vs Evil - its the horror genre but its actually funny. This movie was garbage.
This IS a little known comedic gem, those who are hating are showing their lack of humor. People are stumbling onto this and rating it highly. HBO is currently airing WHAS.
"are showing their lack of humor" Except... I do not lack a sense of humor -- I love Wanderlust and Stella and The Baxter -- and I thought this was pretty boring.
It's now 6.8. WOW! This is a complete steaming pile of sh$t and deserves a "0" if possible. Only had a few chuckles and could not believe that some of these actors agreed to this. Probably a lot a fun to make...but embarrassing to be in.
could not believe that some of these actors agreed to this.
... You do realize this was made 14 years ago before any of them were famous... right? Amy Poehler wasn't on SNL. Bradley Cooper was fresh out of school. Paul Rudd wasn't famous. This was Elizabeth Bank's first movie.
That is why this movie is so funny. It is amazing to see all of this big name people being in such a off-kilter, weird movie. It is like the appeal of RHPS. It is really good because it is really bad.

Secondly, I guarantee I could sit down with a room full of people who talk about this movie being so terrible with the pause button at the ready and watch them miss AT LEAST, with no exaggeration, 500 things in the movie which are absolutely hilarious that people don't even notice.
If you don't like it, you don't like it.
If you didn't get it ... which you more than likely didn't ... don't bother talking about it.
Everything, and I'm talking everything, in the continuity or goof list of this film was done on purpose and people still haven't caught 5-percent of it.
PS - If you an answer this alone, you get an internet cookie...
How many different character's voices did Paul Rudd do via ADR in the movie? On top of that, did Paul even shoot his own voice live the whole movie?
