i was under the impression that, other than promo copies made for festivals, there weren't any commercial english titled ones floating about
either way, i found some copies on foreign sites, which i didn't bookmark because they didn't allow shipping to australia - or out of europe - and there was a bit of trouble reading/translating the pages for the finer details (even with a few web translators)...so, sorry i can't give you the web address
however, i can recall a japanese site claiming it had a copy available - either dvd or vhs but, as i said with the translation issues, i didn't follow it up.
while this isn't too helpful, all i can think of is to possibly search for the title under anothr name - possibly french (origine inocue, or similar)if i remember correctly - as that may be an effective roubdabout way of doing it.
otherwise, if i manage to get a copy soon i'll let you know how/where etc...
I managed to find a copy of this film through a site called www.megastore.se which is a swedish site but has english translation for all of its pages.
the dvd, when i got it, cost me 10 euro plus shipping and it took only a few weeks to get to me and is in mint condition...so, i suggest this site for any looking to get the dvd.
however, it must be stated that the copies available do not have any english subtitles - and i'm not even sure that copies exist with english subtitles but would love to be proven wrong - but have french and swedish. so bear that in mind when buying.
i have been looking for this forever. I just ordered it... i've wanted this movie for over a year, so waiting a couple weeks is no big deal. The no subtitles thing sucks.. but if this is the only way its available.. then so be it
it is another version of the film.. the title is translated in english to "The Unknown" which is was det okanda means... But it makes me wonder if this version has english subtitles?
could be an english subtitle copy. i know that there are a few floating around, however i don't know if they are commercial copies or not.
i think there were quite a few english subtitles copies made for film festival distribution/selection which were sent out. i also remember finding a french release copy a long time ago they said something about english subtitles, but couldn't confirm it and, never ended up buying it or seeing it again.
and when i saw it at a film festival it was english subtitled and called "the unknown". hope you enjoy your copy when it arrives
It arrived and I liked it. I'm happy I was finally able to get a copy... My only real complaint is the fact that I couldn't understand the conversations!
Or since those subs are in a .srt format, are there any versions of this movie available online?
(Don't get me wrong, I'd much rather pay for a movie, or use a service like Netflix, but that's not really possible with this film, though I wish it was with more Scandinavian films.)
