Why Daniel is so into Bridget?

He has a lot girlfriends in my opinion, although he always ends up at Bridge. Why? Why does he need her?

reply

A similar thought crossed my mind but I think it is largely down to HIS ego. He is genuinely fond of her I think because she is fun to be around and is the only one that laughs at his jokes but at the end of the day he appears to like breaking her resolve not to mention getting under Mark Darcy's skin by interfering in their affairs.

Daniel clearly has no problem getting girls but he really likes the challenge of re-engaging Bridget's interest knowing she can't stay angry for very long. He's basically a player. He didn't think much of her though to callously cheat on her in the first film. Maybe he had something to prove to himself by getting her back into bed which almost happened in the sequel had the Thai Ladyboy not turned up!

This makes me feel that Daniel is maybe a good person then, with human problems? O.O Like having courage? If he can get anyone he wants, i think the only reason to fight for Bridget is Mark... And when that thai ladyboy shows up, Daniel doesnt seem to worry about Bidget leaving. Aaaaand it makes him a bad person XD i dont know yet XD maybe the 3rd movie will help us to find out : ) But im sure he isnt in love with her... Mark is :D

reply

He does worry about her leaving. He initially tries to prevent that Thai person entering but then he says "I'm up for it if you are" to Bridget he goes on to say he wanted a shagathon and then say he didn't really mean that either

He is Borderline Egotist essentially and does have a problem with his sex addiction but does want Bridget to respect him lol

Based on the first movie alone, since I'm unaware of anything in any books or other movies:

- She's easy.
- To piss off Darcy.

I wouldn't say he "always ends up at Bridge." I think he always winds up with a variety of women who are easily and cheaply available, one of whom happens to be Bridget. In the long expanses of time when he's not present in the story, he's presumably busy with other women.

reply

^^^ This. I think she's very easy and insecure so he can flatter her and get her to bed without much effort. She's an easy shag whenever he wants one. Also he notices that Darcy likes her and whatever Darcy wants or has, he must have.

reply

because bridge is willing to go back to him.

he likes girls with squishy stomachs.

must be the illegal sex act/s. :)

I think it was because she was good in bed and let him do what he wanted. He also had the upper hand in the relationship. Lara was totally opposite of Bridget and it was clear she wore the pants in that relationship. She wasn't grateful to be with Daniel and didn't put him up on a pedestal like Bridget did. When he went back to Bridget it was after he was dumped by Lara, so who better to build up his ego. I don't think it had anything to do with Mark. The first time he got an inkling of a relationship between them was when he turned up at her apartment during the birthday dinner. I do wonder if that's why Mark started to be into Bridget. He went from disdain to being into her rather quickly. It seemed like it happened after he saw her with Daniel at the book launch.

Bridge had a lusty crush on Daniel before he began to pay serious attention to her. I agree he was fond of her but he was also fond of the adoration she provided. And who knows if he really felt that she was his last chance or just his last chance to *beep* both her and Darcy again. Even charming leopards don't change their spots.

As for Mark Darcy, he was always in to her, ever since the birthday party shown during the credits. Mark fell for Bridget way back then.

After the fight, Daniel says to Bridget, "Let's go up to your place". She then asks him why he wants to be with her. He replies, "If I can't make it with you, I can't make it with anyone".
Short answer: she has been a very easy booty call.

reply

"If I can't make it with you, I can't make it with anyone." Oh, I never knew what to make of that one. Does it mean: "You are sooo easy, and if I can't make it with you, a person of such low aspirations and content with receiving crumbs, than I really don't know... I think I'm not capable of tackling someone who demands more maintenance than you." Or rather does it mean: "I don't care much about anyone, but about you at least I care some, because you are a nice person and above all the others for me, so... why not give it a try?" In other words, what bothers me is I can't recognize does he put his value of self below her or above her. And in the meantime, it's pretty obvious that he puts a lot of effort in making her believe he thinks they are of equal value.

reply

I tend to believe it is your first point..."You're sooo easy...". But you're second point shows he still is simply using her and telling her to her face - "You are worth a shag when no one else is convenient and even if you are a nice person that's all the time I have for you."
Either way, he doesn't value her as a human being - she's just an easy roll in hay. No woman or man should lower themselves to be used this way, but sadly, many people do out of low self esteem and/or plain old loneliness.

reply

You are right, maybe even if those are two ways, the outcome is the same. I felt an ambiguous vibe while he was saying it, like maybe even he isn't certain which is it. And a third point for me would be--and it still doesn't escape the realm of egotistical thinking--he is even feeling a tiny bit sorry for himself that he doesn't care more or can't find someone "worthy" of his effort.

I felt SO relieved when she said: No, thank you.

reply

I think he genuinely liked her, but was a player by heart. He liked getting model chicks way above Bridget on the beauty scale, but Bridget was still the most fun out of all of them.

And then once she gains more self respect, leaves his office, and gets famous, he really starts to miss her.

Then when his engagement breaks off, he's lonely and goes back to someone he knows he can woo again. Pretty much like any other person who is lonely. lol

Coz its poor writing & very unrealistic nonsense. You shouldve noticed that
