STILL LOVE THIS MOVIE YEARS LATER!

I was just rewatching Bridget Jones Diary the other day and have a whole new appreciation for this movie. Especially now that I'm also entering my 30's *ahem* I can really relate to a lot of the situations Bridget finds herself in.

-Having a nagging mother that embarrasses you in front of friends and family
-Having your mother make you wear outdated clothing
-Getting self conscious thoughts in your head about your weight and appearance
-Having a very small close knit circle of friends that you can spill your guts to.
-Embarrassing yourself at a holiday office party
-Embarrassing yourself while public speaking
-Saying the wrong thing at the wrong time always
-Getting invited to a party and being the ONLY SINGLE person at the table
-Having the urge to leave a crappy job and rebranding yourself
-Wondering if you should wear the thong or the tummy sucking spandx under your black dress

My god it's scary how many similar situations I find myself in like Bridget. The only difference is I don't have a Mark Darcy or Daniel Cleaver fighting over me (If only!!!) I guess that's what appealed to a lot of people. Because it's so down to earth. It's a shame that the 2nd movie wasn't as appealing (even though it was watchable) I didn't like how they made Bridget into a bumbling idiot, because I didn't see herself as that in the first movie. She was always just awkward and unlucky, not a waddling klutz

To me the first movie will always be the best movie.

It's such huge fun. And just for contrast: I have nothing in common with her. I'm in my fifties, never had a matchmaking mother, was never the singleton, etc.

On top of that, I usually don't like mass-market comedies. I'm more for documentaries and undiscovered indies.

But this cuts through all that. Lightweight, silly, good-natured fun that's held up beautifully.

Must be the sophisticated script - Mister Tits Pervert 
