Bra in bed

I love this film, but seriously, no one wears a bra in bed.

Oh.

I've thought that about several TV shows and films.

In particular, Sex and the City (where Carrie ALWAYS had a bra on in any bed scenes), The Holiday with Cameron Diaz and plenty of others. By all means, cover up, use a neglige or the duvet but come on!

Maybe lots of Americans do wear bras in bed? And yes, I know this is a British film.

reply

Maybe, YOU don't. You can't say that for EVERYONE.

Seeing women wear bras in bed on the big screen or small screen always bugs me too. No one I know ever does that. Who can "truly" relax wearing a bra anyway. Adrianna in The Sopranos slept in her bra and undies all the time. Granted, she looked hot, but who does that? lol It also bugs me when women cover their breasts with their arms when riding on top during a love scene (a la Kimber on Nip/Tuck). I get they are trying to be sexy without nudity, but it just irks me cuz it's just not a natural thing to do.

I do that. :) (So did Marilyn Monroe, incidentally.)

I sleep in a bra and undies, and nothing else (I get too hot while I sleep and don't want another layer of clothing, especially since my husband radiates heat like a furnace). I'm very slender and barely a B cup, but I'm uncomfortable without a bra. I don't like the feeling of being smushed that I get when I sleep without one (like when I lie on my side), and I don't like sheets etc. rubbing against my nipples. In fact, the only times in my general day-to-day life that I'm braless is when taking a shower or having sex; I find wearing a bra to be much more comfortable than going without.

I'm honestly not singling out the OP or referring just to this thread here, but it's funny how whenever this subject comes up it's always women who sleep bra-less insisting with great vehemence that No Woman Ever Sleeps With A Bra On, rather than women who sleep wearing bras insisting that No Woman Ever Sleeps Without One. I'm not sure why it's such a huge deal to the Bra-less Sleepers that other women find bras comfortable to sleep in, or why it irritates them so much, but it is and apparently it does.

In fact, I've done two casual surveys about the subject in two different places, and found that the number of women who sleep with vs. without seems to be roughly 50/50, or at the very most 40/60. (I know it seems like I'm making a big deal about this, but I had a genuine reason to look into it, honest; it came up with one of my editors once when I had a character sleeping in her bra. I actually had to fight to keep the bra in that scene, so yeah, I get kind of touchy over this one.)

There's nothing bizarre or abnormal about women wearing bras to bed, any more than there is something bizarre or abnormal about women who feel more comfortable in dresses than pants or vice versa, or women who prefer red wine over white or vice versa, or whatever else. There's no one "correct" way for women to dress for bed.

What about American men who wear these white things we call vests, that's particulary "yucky", even worse than a tee-shirt!

reply

A lot of women wear bras to bed actually.

It may just be an easier to shoot and maintain the illusion that every actress has perky firms ones that are not subject to gravity and such bothersome things.

Someone said it!

Anyway, I am in bed right now wearing a bra, knickers and socks...

Nudity clause, I assume.

Snakes. Why'd it have to be snakes?

reply

I usually wear a bra to bed, they fly all over the place otherwise hmph

i watched 'bridesmaids' the other day and the main character also wore a bra to bed in some scenes. i would imagine women with a bigger bust might find it useful but it just doesn't make that much sense to me

let's not go to camelot, it is a silly place

Well, I started this, and I have D cups. I stand by what I said. I don't wear a bra to bed, especially during sex. And I sometimes sleep on my stomach, too. I have so many worse things to worry about. I'm sorry I brought it up. Just struck me at the moment.

In bridesmaids she wore a bra in bed with the guy she was just sleeping with and didn't wear one with the copper. It was explained she did it to show she wasn't as comfortable with the first guy as she was with the cop. Can't remember their names, sorry. Maybe it's the same here. Did she wear a bra on bed with darcy in edge of reason?
