Well he didn't deserve that!(spoilers)

Good movie - very original! But to give him the electric chair??

Lets look at the facts - he was attacked and killed a man in self defence. The only crime he was guilty of was blackmail, if that is a crime in the US?

Big Dave on the other hand beat a man to death and tried to kill another. He wasn't a nice guy and got what he deserved.

I know life isn't always fair, I suppose that I just didn't expect this ending. Still, a great movie!

All of these facts of the film that you mention were never brought to light to the court.

Ed never presented any of these things. He was trying to protect his wife, and after she died, well he just didn't care enough to bring all these facts to life.

Reiden-Schneider didn't care about the truth... He dismissed Ed's confessions all the way through the film to bolster his own ego, and his own career.

Ed was just a dead, lost soul. He was sparked by the dream of being a dry cleaner at one point, but that was all the chutzpah he could muster for life.

When Birdy finally called him on his sexuality in the car, he was so stifled by the norms of the time (even today many men would turn down the advances of a 16 year old girl, and rightfully so), that he shut her down immediately.

He was tried and convicted for killing Creighton Tolliver, which was in no way self-defense, even if it had been him that did it.
