Why did they bring 'Enrique' in the show?

He's just an awful character. He doesn't add any development into the story. I think they just added him to speak more Spanish and to tell about his stupid stories about when he lived in "Columbia". it was fine with just Max and Emmy.

I think the show had a Spanish/Mexican theme for a certain reason. Either that or they wanted Quetzal to be able to say things like "¡Hola! ¿Como estás? ¿Hablas Español?"

I can't believe Dragon Tales is still airing. Anyway, I was just channel surfing and I saw an episode of the show and I was like, "Cool, Dragon Tales! It's been about 5 years since I sat down and watched an episode." And then I see Enrique and I though it was cool they had a new character... right until I realized they added him in the show just to give Dragon Tales that Dora the Explorer theme where they start speaking spanish and stuff. I was pouting like a little child the entire episode.

reply

Just ignore the Spanish thing and enjoy the story, ideas, and/or the art style. Dragon Tales is not a bad show, but I wish they'd show more humans. Enrique was only added because they needed new story ideas.

Cartoons are slowly being taken over by Hispanics, just like the US:

Dora the Explorer
Dragon Tales
Handy Manny
Captain Carlos

Have I left any out??

reply

I think that pretty much covers it, but I could be wrong.

Maya and Miguel

reply

Ah, yes.

...(And what's "Captain Carlos"?)

reply

Got that right!.....It's called political correctness.....Let them bloody learn OUR language for a damn change!
What's next, "Dombi the Swahili Aardvark"?

reply

It's Colombia, not Columbia. I also dislike this politically-correct garbage. Specially since people can't differentiate Spanish from Hispanic, (Europe from Latin America, which also includes the Portuguese and Italian languages) and it's sickening how these shows promote the abomination of our beautiful language, making it sound like retarded gibberish.

Also, don't forget the addition of "Los vecinos," the Molina family in "Arthur." Vicita's "Spanish" is the worst imitation of the language I've ever heard in my life.

reply

Agreed. He's the Scrappy Doo of Dragon Tales.

I don't mind the fact that he's Hispanic, though (it's a Hispanic-themed show, after all). I just think he's a waste of screen time, and I don't think the writers really know what to do with him. How many times have you seen the show stop dead so Enrique can make some unnecessary comment about what life was like back in Columbia?

reply

i know! like 10 mintues of the whole show is about
him in Columbia. We get it Enrique!

reply

I don't mind his being from Columbia or any of that, but I wish he weren't such a whiny kid. He veers from being a little bossy and overbearing to going on and on about how sad he is.

He's such an awful character. All he does is whine and complain and he's a wuss. I mean, he was afraid of snow for cripes sake. I realize he's from "Co-lum-bi-a", but when he saw everyone else in it he should know it doesn't hurt. Not that Dragon Tales is a particularly educational show in itself, but adding him was a mistake. He and Rosita of Sesame Street serve no purpose other than to whine, bitch and moan and speak Spanish. I dread the episodes with Enrique. Though it may not matter since Dragon Tales is being replaced by Sid the Science kid next month. And I've not see a schedule yet listing Dragon Tales later or earlier in the day.

Just say to Obama.

reply

I like Enrique. I'm tired of everyone bashing him. I'm glad they added him to the show. The show needed another character.

It's called being "POLITICALLY CORRECT"......Look at crap like Dora the Explorer and Diego, tell us about it Janet!
I don't like the media force feeding us all this "PC" crap..... Quetzal, Max and Emmy are more than adequate for the hispanic dept. .....Enrique is just adding insult to injury.

Here I am reading old posts that I was in and people are actually bitching diversity on television. Like there isn't enough TV shows with white people in the US.

Let's get upset because we want our children to be bilingual like other countries push different languages on their kids. Initially, I was upset because the show was riding on the coat tails of Dora the Explorer's success and I felt it was unnecessary. It had nothing to do with "oh look, he's speaking Spanish and this is a part of some political correct movement." Some comments in here are beyond disgusting.

reply

I believe it was because cartoons with Hispanic main characters exist and he had to be one of them. He might've fit in better in Disney films about Hispanic culture.
