director's cut vrs. whatever

What's the difference between "Va Savoir" and "Va Savoir+"? Other than the additional 30 minutes or so. Is it another example of "Out 1"/"Spectre" and "La Belle Noiseuse"/"Divirtimento"?

No,the longer version is fundamentally the same as the widely released one, only with additional scenes of the Pirandello play in which Jeanne Balibar is appearing.

Thank you!

There were rumors of a French DVD of this film that would feature the original cut - which is actually over an hour longer than the so-called "theatrical" version. Does anyone know if this DVD ever materialized? Or if the 3hr+ version exists in any form?

reply

As far as I know there was never a 3hr. plus DVD version of the film ,so I don`t think the long version exists in any form.Even in the recent touring retrospective of Rivette only the shorter version was shown.Which is a great pity.

The 220+ min. VA SAVOIR+ was shown at the Centre Pompidou Rivette program. Check p. 8 of this: http://www.centrepompidou.fr/Pompidou/Communication.nsf/docs/ID9DC6F7B639DC7559C125727600620AFB/$File/Jacques%20Rivette.pdf

Kinowelt in Germany did a Rivette box. They told me in an e-mail they had tried to find VA SAV0IR+ but no luck. Box does have several hard-to-find titles, I think MERRY-GO-ROUND, NOROIT, DUELLE. No English subs.
