Couldn't wait to watch my taping of the 2001 South Pacific when I returned from Hawaii this summer.I love Rade as Emile. Does anyone know if he did the actual singing? Also is that his Serbian/Croation dialect or is he acting out a French dialect? What is he doing these days?
shareYes, that is his actual singing voice. He's cut something like 12 albums over his career, and did a Croatian TV special a couple of years back - a live concert where he sang with his family (who also perform) of Serbian folk and other music. He's really multi-talented, and I'm going out to rent "Snatch" to see his over-the-top Boris the Blade again. What a contrast from this role.
I was overall pretty pleased with this version of South Pacific. Pretty amazing production values for a TV special, and the camera work jolted this out of the standard "filmed play" making it more of a real movie than 1958's version.
I enjoy his acting in this role very much, but is singing is lacking for me. I really just don't care for he vibrato.
