Some people thought that Sarawak was in South America, when it is actually thousands of miles away. Also, how can people be so naive of South East Asia. It is very evident when Jeopardy contestants commit mistakes when it comes to that part of Asia.

How can you be so ignorant when it comes to English? One does not use "the" to represent a proper noun as you did with "the South America"
