Jasmine?

Okay. This may sound a little naive, but what was with Jasmine, the "assistant cook"? At first it sound like the cook has brought Jasmine to be a male lover for John. Then I thought that he was supposed to sleep with Selima instead of John, since John was not doing it at that point. Then then cook says that Jasmine is to "assist" John, and then gestures. He then says that Jasmine is very clean, but is too old for something that he does not specify, and John becomes disgusted. Is he disgusted because the cook is offering him gay sex? Sex between Jasmine and Selima? What is Jasmine supposed to assist with?

LOL,

Veronica

P.S. I hope this post is clean enough for our younger readers, but if you are too young, you should probably not be on a message board for this movie.

The cook assumed that JOHN didn't want sleep with SELIMA because he was gay, so he brought him a young man to have sex with. JOHN was shocked and angry because he had assumed that, and perhaps he was homophobic (remember the time period).
