What Elba said about her British cast

In Entertainment Weekly, 2006 (sorry, but I just read this recently) she said "It was an all-British cast and I didn't fit in at all. They didn't try to make me feel welcome. I got snubbed every single day."

I truly hope she is exaggerating or maybe playing it up for the mag or something. Dancy and Blethyn are two of my favorite actors and I would hope they wouldn't treat anybody that way.

I always take what I read in magazines with a pinch of salt. That could have been said in a joking way or taken way out of context. They'll do anything to get a story.

I'd say she might be correct in that her american cultural differences probably separated her from the english cast as well as the Borneo extras, and some loneliness may indeed have set in. It sort of reveals itself on-screen throughout the movie, in that something about the whole film doesn't quite gel together despite the viewer wanting it to.
Rememberng that Alba was only an 18 year old american kid when she came out to do this film, I'm sure there was no 'snobbery' being intended on the english cast's part, it'd just be the way she might read the differences coming across at her at that age?

I thing that her reflectance for the native population says a lot about herself and also an American stereotype, in reference to the "mainly British cast" Haha
but I don't wish to over analyze it was just the first thought that hit me when i read it =)

Sounds as though she is a typical self-centred American prima donna.

She may well have been! Also remember that the other leads (Blethyn, Hoskins) were heavyweights and old enough to be her parents. Can you see them being chummy with an American kid lead actress, there as box-office bait due to her astounding beauty (rather than her acting ability).

It's funny, I remember reading about her being a snob/difficult to work with on the set of Dark Angel. At least towards Jensen Ackles.
