Sequel?

Am I the only one who thinks a sequel would not only be much needed but incredible?

reply

You're not the only one. It's a shame that comparative dreck like "Another Gay Movie" gets sequels and this one does not. I don't think Sébastien's later movies quite measured up, so in his own interest it might be a good idea to get back to a movie that was an instant classic ten years ago and has aged really well.

My idea for a scenario: Mathieu and Cédric have drifted apart. Mathieu was emotionally more mature, but physically inexperienced, Cédric was the reverse, and their relationship fell apart a few months after the events of CU. (I'd say the end of "Come Undone" hints strongly at their relationship not having a future, with Mathieu brooding and Cédric obliviously playing with the dog.)

Ten years later--both have gone though various lovers (male/female/perhaps even marriage and kids) and jobs when some clever plot device brings them together again quite unexpectedly. (But don't let that plot device be "Cédric has AIDS"!) Essentially a little like "Brokeback Mountain", but instead of sappy melodrama it should have the signature psychological believability that sets French movies apart from the Hollywood gay trash movie.

Rather than having the characters stagnate emotionally as in BB, I'd like to see some development, until they reach a point where their relationship finally works out. My impression was always that Mathieu and Cédric were the gay versions of Taylor and Burton, bound to fall in and out of love with a each other several times before things work out for them.

it would be good if after 10 years they managed to be return as lovers even if a lot has changed. im not sure how they would look now or if either one of them has gained weight.

reply

yep you have a point there...as over 10 yrs have truly elapsed since CU's first release

They look different now

Someone has to tell the Director, that his movie has a 'gazillion' of fans waiting for a better resolution of the Mathieu and Cedric story!!

Loved your line of thought! Yes, definitely needs a sequel and this time with a happy end.
A Happy Ending doesn't always have to be cheesy...

I will add my name to you guys' "petition" for a sequel, you bet!!

Imo, this movie was as good as Brokeback, truly.
Jeremie and Stephane should really be played by new French actors out there (Brice Hillairet?) but loved the acting by these 2 guys - utterly, completely convincing as lovers. Top marks to the director.

But, but, the aim is to see Jeremie and Stephane together on screen again! :D

OK, but the years have not been overly kind - still handsome but lost their allure somehow.
But, ok, I would still sign your "petition"! :)

That was Pierre, at the end, with the dog. (Pierre was Cedric's ex who was jealous when he saw the new couple kissing at the club.) They were definitely breaking up though. Mathieu was struggling too much with chronic depression to maintain that level of intimacy and Cedric had issues of his own (ie, infidelity.)

Pierre was on the beach with Mathieu during the last scene. The guy with the dog and the boy was Cedric, although it is not clear what his relationship with the boy was.
