Didn't see the whole movie, but Gail O'Grady was born in 1963, Kari Wuher in 1967. I don't see why they couldn't have promoted Maggie as the singer, she was prettier than Kari Wuher IMO.

My problem with it was that they didn't look that far apart in age. Usually when they cast like this, it is because the actor/actress playing the younger character can pass off as looking a decade or so younger; but Gail and Kari looked the same age. And I agree that Gail was much prettier. I think, though, because Kari had a track record of playing sexy characters, the filmmakers saw her fit to play the talentless tart, whereas Gail's more wholesome beauty made her prefect as the mom.
There are few things as fetching as a bruised ego on a beautiful angel.
