Similar to Bride and Prejudice?

I am a Jane Austen devotee and thoroughly loved Bride and Prejudice. Is this movie similar? What can I expect?

We're here; we're clear; we don't want anymore bears!

This film is so much better than Bride and Prejudice. For starters, this film is totally and authentically well done. =0) I felt that Bride and Prejudice was a little too contrived for my tastes. The dancing is gorgeous, the music is romantic and tugs at your heart strings and the costumes are stunning. They say that hot pink is the navy blue of India, if that gives you an idea of what to expect. Also, worth noting, although this film is about 2 1/2 hours long, it doesn't drag at all. If you aren't falling in love with the beauty of the landscape, you will be swept away by the music and the intelligent story.

I totally agree. I bought it and watch it often.

It is. When I first saw it I kept thinking it felt like something from Jane Austen. And then I looked on IMDB and found out it's an adaptation of Sense and Sensibility. Bollywood and Jane Austen fit somehow. This is what Bride and Prejudice should have been. I'm hopping there is or will be a Bollywood/Kollywood etc. version of Emma

Kandukondain is way better than Bride and P and I liked the latter! Aish delivers a great performnace but the movie belongs to Tabu and Mamootty. Outstanding dances and AR Rahman music is heavenly. The song Illei Illei Solla/Yenna Solla Pogirai (What will your answer be?) made me want to learn and know Tamil so bad! I too own the DVD and loan to as many friends as I can - this is a gem of a movie!

Kandukondain Kandukondain is one of the best tamil films ever, great flick! Give the credits to the director Rajiv Menon who is the best cinematographer in India and a great film maker but also to the cast!

P.S This have nothing to do with bollywood, it is a TAMIL flick :)

I haven't seen this film altl the way through yet, (I've seen about half gonna watch the rest once i've finished my coursework), but so far it is a BRILLIANT film. I was becoming seriously disillusioned by Indian movies (I know this isn't indian but same sort of thing), and then I watched this and...just wow. It is really well done. Vey subtle and heartfelt heartfelt. It's NOT a strict adaptation of Sense and Sensibility, and it usually annoys the hell out of me when movies deviate so much from the source material, but here it works. Tabu is obviously wonderful in the role, you expect her to be excellent and she doesn't dissapoint. The revalation of this movie however, was Aishwarya. Now I hate Ms Rai, her acting always seems overly concious, like she's aware there's a camera there, and I can never truly believe that she is the character she plays, all I ever see is Aiswarya trying to act. There are a lot of things about her acting that annoy me because most of what she does is the same as what she's like in real life, the annoying laugh, exagerated facial expressions etc. But here she is excellent, in fact I could hardly believe it was her. She keeps her acting restrained and subtle, which leaves you with a very genuine portrayal of her character. If only she could act like this in all her movies and lose the ego.

B&P was made for a Western audience, but KK was made for people who are accustomed to Bollywood. I have no problem with that. B&P may have opened the door to more people watching Bollywood movies. I know it did for me. I now own KK and "Straight from the heart," also with Aish.

KK is a visually, musically and emotionally gorgeous film. This is what B&P should have been; B&P was made specifically to be commercial and to appeal to a western audience.

KK is a true Indian film.

Which is what I said. I also said that it helped open up Bollywood (and its "cousins") to a Western audience. I'm not quite sure what's wrong with that. I loved B&P and am glad I saw it. I also liked KK and am glad I saw it. There's really no need to be condescending to people who don't know or understand Indian cinema.

There's one coming out in August this year, and I think it looks like a lot of fun! See the trailer for Aisha:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OP5b4yT53WM

Dude, chill, it is BRIDE AND PREJUDICE.
Obviously Gurinder's movie, not Jane's novel.
