This movie lost its luster

When she revealed to the audience she had the key and locked the door. I loved the movie up until that point because I was thinking at the time how many possibilities this movies direction could. Before we knew she had the key it was it was very much a psychological thriller.

Seriously, what could be worse than going down into a hole only to realize while you're waiting for someone's return to open the door you realize they've played a sick joke and now you're trapped? This movie should have been the first story Liz told and then watch all the kids go mad with no food or water and then have them start either seeing real or imagined ghosts, demons or creatures.

Movie was frustrating because it started with so much promise and then bizzzzzombed.

I know you posted that last year, but I just finished watching the movie and couldn't agree more! I was thinking the same thing--it would have been a better movie if Martyn had trapped them in because he was insane and in love with Liz, etc. I liked all the characters up to that point and was even rooting for Mike and Liz to an extent.
Now, I love a good twist in a film, but the fact that Liz had the key the whole time (and everything that happened in the "real story") just didn't do it for me. I was waiting for a whole movie dedicated to them trying to figure out the listening devices, searching around the bunker, maybe a creepy tunnel or two, etc.

oh well...

Yeah, I agree, too. I just finished the film. I think the movie would have been best if we had learned Liz had a *part* in keeping them down there perhaps, but ultimately the film just wasn't as satisfying when the character we spent the most time with had all the power for so much of the film. I didn't really believe her character could be that evil, and knowing that she could have let them out at any time completely took away from the sense of terror.

I was sort of expecting a plot twist where Martyn was not involved at all, but that a psychopath Lizzie locked them inside for some sort of revenge.
