Perplexed As To Why I Love This Film

I'm not sure why I love this film. It takes such liberties with actual historical events as to be a parody. It has NO basis in actual history. This is a part of history that I am very familiar with, as my ancestors actually fled the first French Revolution. Not all made it out alive (we have stories of some members of our family actually ending up on the business end of the guillotine). This film is grossly inaccurate.... Yet I find myself drawn to it again and again.

Hmm.

I like the film too.

It is pure fiction. The acting is decent but many were miscast.

But the sets and costumes were very good. Where it really shines is how it sets up its crime. It's basically The Sting set in the 18th century.
