Crotch shots

What was up with the director filming crotch shots of bijou Philips character and various other innapropriate shots that had nothing to do with the movie I didn't like the acting in this movie , the characters were annoying and just seemed out of synch almost ad libbed

I thought the same about this film. It wasn't well executed and many things were included in order to make this film more contrversial, eventhough many these had no meaning to the plot.

I in favor of nudity and sex as long as they serve a purpose, but when all of this is done in order to compensate for an overall low quality film, it's a big NO.

The director, Larry Clark, is well known for this. Teen "misbehavior" a big part in most of the work he does.

Basically, if you are a teen and you are in his movies, odds are you will get naked/drunk/high/raped/stds.

when she got the pedicure & talking on the phone-yea, I could have done without that beaver shot.

UH I have seen more Italian films than you . Its not prudery , it called crappy filmmaking , im no prude by any means , these crotch shots were the view of whoever was directing it lol not some guy looking there . it was frivolous and had no meaning to the film at all

Italian films are unabashedly exploitative. I don't mind that. Larry Clark's films though ALSO tend to be very preachy and alarmist and so all the nudity and the crotch shots come off as rather hypocritical. It's kind of a mixed message to say that teenagers today are going to hell with sex and drugs at the same time you as the filmmaker are not passing up any opportunity to leer at their breasts, butts, and vaginas. He is actually a very American combination of moralistic and leering (just because Americans are more prudish doesn't mean they don't lust after nubile young flesh as much as Europeans do).

I'd actually compare Larry Clark to French/English director David Hamilton. Both started out as photographers and both liked to film adolescent and post-adolescent models in states of undress. Hamilton though never felt he had to cloak it in some kind of "social message" when he filmed a sixteen-year-old girl naked (as Clark does with Kelli Garner in this movie). People, especially American people, really make too big a deal of nudity or the fact that most teenagers are sexually developed and sexually active, but Clark really does as well.

That being said, this IS Clark's best film because it is based on a real incident and a certain GROUP of young people, and doesn't come off as a half-assed indictment of an entire generation like "Kids".

Oh please Laz, there's a reason we don't like underaged kids exploited.

The actress didnt care to much for it either, she was extremely unhappy when she saw those shots in theaters, if I recall correctly she had no idea they had been filmed that way. Posting quota is in place. You are limited from posting again for a short while:
